429 Cobra Jet newbie

Post by agertz1 »

A friend just bought this and he is on a budget. No intake yet. Word is, a roller cam will really wake it up ? 95% street, plenty of gear and about
3K lbs. Isky mech. roller of 265 deg. at .050" too much ? Will 302 Ford, tie-bar hyd. lifters work ? Lengthen slot in tie bar ? Will they tame the cam
somewhat ? This have a forged crank ? Are rods ok with better bolts ?
Thanks, Art.

If the guide bar is long enough; if the rocker arms are NOT "stud & guideplate"" mounted.
"Shaft" and "Bolt-Down" fulcrums will be adequate as they will not cause any rocker side motion because of the taller pushrod cups in the lifters needing shorter pushrods which will have more side angularity.

Hydraulic roller lifters will actually make the camshaft seem larger.

Just buy some good solid roller lifters for the big block Ford and stop the worrying.
