8.2 Deck Dart/World Windsor longest stroke possible?
Hi, I am wanting to build a stroker 8.2 deck Windsor, and would like to get a custom crank built. Whats the longest strokes anyone has seen with an 8.2 Deck?
Using Honda B16, 1.888 journal, 5.290" Manley turbo tuff Rods, I would like to do either a 3.69 stroke with 1.065 compression height custom pistons, or 3.75 stroke with 1.035 comp height pistons. The Honda .827" pin would allow for .050" lower comp height than a standard 347/363 piston while maintaining the same clearances regarding Oil Ring/pin Intersection, and if using 15 degree Brodix or Edelbrock heads, the 1.035" comp height would be achievable, though the 3.69 stroke 1.065" comp height opens up all cylinder head options.
3.690" stroke/5.290" rod/1.065" CH/4.155" bore, gives 400 cubes from a 8.2 deck if achievable.
1. World 8.2 Man Of War blocks have cylinder bores that extend down .5" inch for better piston stability, but would they allow for the stroke?
2. Would the stroke even be possible in a Dart 8.2 SHP block?

Pretty sure you can do 3.625" stroke, 5.4" small journal chev rod & 1.000" comp height piston.
That'd give 388 cubes with a 4.125" bore or 393 cube with 4.155" bore.

I'd definitely want the block with the longer cylinder at the bottom. With the 3.625 and 5.4 rod, the piston will come way out of the bottom. It does even work 3.4 stroke.

also might want to discuss journal overlap with the crank manufacturer depending on what main size you are going to use.

New Boss 302 blocks are the ones with the short cylinders.
Many go with the 8.7" blocks, which are a great way to open up some room, as well as get some decent rod length.

Math:
Stock 289: 2.87" stroke, 2.249" mains, 2.123" rods has traditional OL [(main + rod - stroke) ÷ 2]) as .751" (linear inches).
However, GM and others use a more complex formula to calculate the actual shared cross-sectional area (shown here: https://mathworld.wolfram.com/Circle-Ci ... ction.html).
Using this method the overlap is .858 in².
Solving again for 3.69" stroke, 2.249" mains, 1.888" rods, the traditional OL is .224" (70% less).
Using the GM method the overlap is .140 in² (84% less).

Chris Uratchko did at least one 400” 8.2 or 8.7 deck SBF back in the day if memory serves me well.

What compression are you wanting? A dished piston may cause an issue. You can use the .827 wristpin no problem as long as you leave minimum .200 of material under the pin hole---check counterweight clearance of course.

Im currently chipping away at a 8.2 deck stroker for a street car of this caliber. It is a dart iron eagle block, a kings crankshaft 3.550 stroke crank with a honda rod journal. I believe it's 1.850 I dont remember. carrillo 5.4" rod with a .812 wrist pin. Custom racetec piston 1mm,1mm,2mm ring pac, 12:1 with a flattop. With a 1.025 compression height and a .812 wrist pin it's already extremely tight with the oil ring going mostly through the pin. It has Kuntz speedmaster cleveland heads on it that are a custom port by Kuntz, a hogans sheetmetal intake, t&d shaft rocker, 55mm solid roller with a .937 lifter. I have everything to put it together, except the machine work on the block isn't done so I haven't mocked it up yet. It's a 4.165 bore so it will be 387" Be prepared to find out the short block is insanely expensive. My crank has something like 8-10 chunks of mallory in it to internal balance. We are trying to make 800 hp and a drag week style build with ulitmate reliabilty as I don't race it, it's just a toy to drive around and put a smile on my face.

Question for you Gents as reading this got me wondering. How low can you go with rod ratio? Some of these combos mentioned would equal a ration in the 1.4's. WIll something like that last for street driving? Or drag only?

Sounds like a cool build. Love me the 8.2 deck builds. Kinda surprised the crank needed that much metal to balance. This is why the 8.7" deck blocks were invented. What is your application? We built and maintain a 374 cid 8.2 deck road race engine for a vintage road race customer that occasionally goes to some outlaw run what you brung events. Dart aluminum block, 3.500stroke, 4.125 bore, 5.400 rod on 2.00 crank pin,1.035 cd, dry sump oiling.. Cylinder wall and piston wear have been a problem even with piston oiler jets. It probably would work fine for a drag race application, but definately a dissapointment in road race environment durability wise.
