For how many miles ?
They won't last more than a season in circle track racing.

We developed the tool steel cam and DLC coated lifter deal in 2000. It was a true game changer in the cup world compared to the stelite overlay/chilled iron lifter we used for years. Virtually eliminated cam and lifter problems. The cam cores alone are 3k.

Yes, and like many other NASCAR innovations, it trickled down to the lower classes of circle track racing.
We had good luck, running the DLC coated lifters against different types of steel cams. The most economical. was induction hardened 1050 steel(about $750 + $1,500 for the lifters). It didn't take long for local tracks to change their rules, and make it illegal to run Steel cams in the flat tappet classes. That's when we tried using the DLC coated lifters on cast cams, but could never get them to last a whole season. I wanted to try putting in a cam tunnel, and flooding it with oil, but not to many weekend racers are going to want to do that.

So would you break in a flat tappet cam like normal And then switch to these lifters Or use a cam specificity for them???

edit: Also I assume this would make flat tappet cams with these lifters more reusable engine to engine.

I would assume you would break them in like normal. They just seem to be advertised to take the guesswork out of the break in people have had bad luck with recently

Hopefully CamKing can comment, my guess would be if the lifters eventually take out standard Iron cams as CamKing has noted they must never bed in in the first place. So yes then, put them on any cam whilst they show no signs of wear.

Might treat them like a new vaccine, give it 5 years to see what happens. At the price there should be a high takeup, disaster may start inside a year.

Not bedding in and flaking coating would be my fears.

Since no one has any real data on these, I'm going to lock this thread, until someone actually runs them.
It's not a "Game changer" until they're proven to work.
Right now, they're just a sales pitch.
