chevy starter bolt pattern
my buddy had an sbc engine built by a roundy round engine builder that was built for a street car. he ued all old blocks and steel heads with no explanation why. even used a solid flat tappet cam that only goes up to 6200 rpms and dont really start working till 4000 rpms and there is poor vacuum for the power brakes. thing i dont understand the most is why he used a starter with only 2 bolt holes(only 2 holes in block) and a 153 tooth flexplate. what years was this starter flexplate combo used. thanks Art

Almost every year the SBC was offered; in some vehicle or another. Never in a 400 though.chevy art wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 12:50 pm my buddy had an sbc engine built by a roundy round engine builder that was built for a street car. he ued all old blocks and steel heads with no explanation why. even used a solid flat tappet cam that only goes up to 6200 rpms and dont really start working till 4000 rpms and there is poor vacuum for the power brakes. thing i dont understand the most is why he used a starter with only 2 bolt holes(only 2 holes in block) and a 153 tooth flexplate. what years was this starter flexplate combo used. thanks Art

How much did he pay for the engine, and what were the customers demands? Sounds like he used a bunch of stuff he had around and built an engine. I like iron heads, so I use them for most of my own builds. Cam sounds like a roundy, round cam. Also, many of the roundy round cars use the 153 tooth flywheels and starters. Sounds like standard stuff the builder is familiar with.

Pretty sure a few of my SBC auto cars came with a 153 flexplate stock, my C4 for example. All the factory and aftermarket starters I have/had were 2 bolt, I forgot there even was a 3 bolt aftermarket version.
