Another reason I like getting away from 23° sbc heads. Below pic red dot is where 23° aluminum aftermarket head spark plug is in the cylinder, blue is where spark plug is for G1 head.

Not that it's the only factor but how much advance does it like at peak torque ?

What would be the PtH clearance in this example?
Isn't the thinking that a tighter quench also create a more active combustion chamber and thus requires less timing?
Just asking to see if that plays a part in the reduced need for more spark advance.

they were developed for the 302 trans am engine and they did not make enough more power to tool up to make them available on the open market where the $$$ are.

Gotta take issue with that. If he was under budget, he should never have taken orders for a product he did not have, not should he have lied about the prduct saying it would be delivered next week, next month, etc. If it happened once or twice I could understand, but there were dozens of guys who paid him for heads and never got anything. Thousands and thousands of dollars. Not just for the SBC but for the SBF as well. These guys were buying a product, not trying to fund his R&D to develop it. They were told they were or would soon be available. He outright lied to people. There are pages and pages of post on various forums detailing what he did and how much he took from people. He took 20K from one guy. And he got nothing for that money (youtube link)

They are a lot further into the bore area (more centralised) than say a 1960's fuellie, but it's only 2 to 4 degrees timing difference isn't it ?

My old fuelie heads would take 38-40° to make the best power, the Vortecs only need 32° for best power, at least that's what has worked for me.
