mopar p-5 sb hemi heads
Does anybody have any info on these.I know they went through a redesign from from when they were first introduced in the pro stock truck series.ie..spark plugs through the valve covers, different valve cover, more robust casting. My question centers around flow #'s, port volume, combustion chamber size, valve size.Who is porting them?Is there a reason you dont hear about these heads? Are they junk or can you get the same performance out of a w9 rp? Thanks guys.Don, great forum!
Don,
give me an e-mail curtis@cboggs.com or a call at the shop, ..

If I had my choice I'd look very hard at the W9 rp's more for valve train
stability over the P-5. or put the P-5 valve train on a spintron, ..

I would call Foltz as well. He is the only one out there I would trust to do those heads.shawn wrote:We used CFE for all of our prostock truck heads. He has a pretty good base to work from with them. Give him a call.

Darin,
I'm wondering, .. what is it about that head that you think is so difficult
or different??
Is it just the raw form of the casting, . .. like a W9rp, .. where you have
to cut all the guide locations, seat locations, .. CnC a chamber in, etc.?
I've only done limited work with them, but didn't think it was any more
difficult then any other ground up cylinder head engineering project.

Bottom line, I cant do everything nor do I wish too. I have no experience with those heads so I would have to spend a lot of time ( which I don't have) and money to do them. I am doing the P/S stuff and the PS/B stuff along with many other projects so I just don't want to give something like that a half assed effort and not have it run fast. Its all or nothing. I refer many people to Foltz. If I cant do it I usually tell them to go there.cboggs wrote:Darin,

Oh, .. I thought there was something strainge about them mechanically, .. .. ..
Yea I understand about time, or a lack of, .. .. we can only do so much.
I use Mike Chapman for CnC and machine work some times, ... like
putting chambers in my W9rp project, .. good work & saves time.
heck Carl has some great Pro stock, Chevy comp & mopar comp stuff, ..
I don't see how HE finds all the time to make all that stuff run great.
Cheers,
Curtis

I am doing heads for Schumacher's PS/B team. I have been working with them for about eight months now. I managed to pick them up 30cfm and about 40ft/sec mean velocity. The newest heads should be on the bikes in about a month. They are a major redesign over what they have now. There crew chief and engine builder, Steve Tartaglia is awesome to work with and he is very smart. He does what ever it takes and the results from all his ( and the other team members) hard work will soon be apparent. There is a lot left in those bikes. They will be in the six's by mid season if not earlier. I think they are capable of low 6.90's by years end. Those engines are 92cid and produce 315hp. pretty cool ha? especially since there a hemispherical two valve head!
I would LOVE to get my hands on a set of those Harley PS/B heads. I would even do it for nothing!
