Epoxy the exhaust port?

Post by d4490 »

Have you ever used epoxy for the cast iron exhaust ports? I found this super high temp epoxy at McMaster Carr.

Will this work on cast iron heads?

Pyro Putty made by Aremco

http://www.aremco.com/a15.html

Pyro-Putty®
These high temperature ceramic and metal-filled pastes are ideal for repairing defects in manifolds, headers, exhaust pipes, mufflers, and more. Pyro Putty® metal repair compounds bond tanaciously to cast aluminum, cast iron and steel, and are easy to apply, cure, machine and clean.

I have used these putties however they are a bit of a pain in the ....
I found that it needs to be applied in very thin layers to cure up properly. If you get it to cure properly it is very hard and grinds almost like metal,
I wouln't use it on a Turbo application for fear of any of it coming loose and going through the vanes of a Turbo, ( I don't think the Turbo would like it)

Good luck

Good point about the turbo.

The MSDS sheet states that this is the Pyro Putty from Aremco.

Thank you for your input.

seems with some care, you might be able to decrease the risk of a piece letting go...maybe put some small dowel pins in to give it something to hang on to...
Certainly didn't know the stuff even existed.

Sounds like a joke but, I have used red silicone for years in small amounts. When the build up of weld is not enough/voids, etc.
