Larry,
Not being sure of the compound, but the 14.5 x 33's seem to be the ticket for the s/c racers in my area with smaller mills (read, less HP). Somehow they believe that the taller sidewall and smaller patch leads to more consistant rollout (who woulda thunk?). Anyways, these in your condition seem to take mid $200 /set in my area...Just like anything else, it is what the market will absorb, start high and work down.

don't forget about www.racingjunk.com.

Thanks
Dennis

Goodyear Tires

Post by Adger Smith »

Larry,
There are 2 versions of the 12X33 goodyear tire. The 2326 is a soft sidewal hi growth tire the other(# escapes me) is a stiff sidewall / flat tread tire. These were the ticket in Comp until Hooser came out with a repalcement. I still have a set of each with low runs. When Good year went to production in Chile the tires changed & didn't work the same. That is why the older American tires were the most desireable. I would say they are worth a bunch if someone really wants or needs them. I think the 14.5 tires are like the stiff, no growth, 12 in tires. I have no experience with them.

i forgot about my Post :)

i was initially offered $4000 + new rear + front rims
by a Comp Elim guy for the 12x33 only
then later $6000

i know an old friend of mine sold his for $10,000
to an extremely popular well known Comp Emin Racer
..i don't want to say who :)

just was wondering about current status of these Tires + $ Price

i'll check the State...but he doesn't race or represent the Car out of New York ?..could be ?
I think the 14.5 tires are like the stiff, no growth, 12 in tires. I have no experience with them.
i Track tested those 14.5"x33's on 12" inch wide rims
-VS-
the 12x33's on 10" wide rims

the 14.5" were a few hundreds ET quicker
these are Hi-Growth tires

on my Dragster with just an ET Bracket type Engine
355 cid 720hp at 8500 483 peak TQ at 7000
1420 Lbs 5.14 gears 1.82 Powerglide
running 7.50's at best of 181.459 MPH

so for approx 179-181 mph range
the 14.5's on 12"'s
and with only 720hp/483TQ
were growing the same rate as the 12x33 on 10"

i was was initially worried about being too much Tire
and i know it was, but was just Tests for what would work
on marginal regular weekend type Track conditions, no Track prep

basically an experiment..it worked about like i thought it would ?

they didn't slow me down at all,
and thats on that Engine,
a good B/ED or A/ED could easily use the 14.5's
no top-end loss on marginal Track

>>I think the 14.5 tires are like the stiff, no growth<<
you might be thinking of the 14x32's ??

we tried a pair of 14x32 between 3 Dragsters
a lot of years ago just for Fun :)
it killed the ET 2 tenths and right at 3 mph
-VS- the little 11x33's and the 12x33's

those little 11x33's ran pretty fast sometimes on C/ED back then :)
