shaving tires

Anyone shaved tires for road racing. What sort of tool is used. We are planning to use a lathe but need some advie on tooling

Try there if not look into a tire groover , takes longer but get it done.

we take ours to a guy that does re-treads. For what he charges , it isn't worth trying to do it ourselves. The machine he uses is like a big lathe that mounts the tires. not sure what he uses for cutters but they remove the treads in short order. For $20 he'll do 4 tires for us.
