Concerning the steering box question yes the tight spot is normal. All the older manual steering gears had that and its from
The worm gear being ground with a sligh high spot in it. It helps keep the slack out of the steering gear while going
Straight ahead.
I can rember my dad rebuilding steering gears and that was the finishing touch was to find that high spot and set the
back lash. The jam nut and set screw on top of the steering gear is how you set the back lash.
