I tried to post a few pictures of some simple altered frames but can't get them to post.

The easiest way is to click on the Attachments tab below the Post Reply box, then on the Add files box, which will take you to your computer's picture folders. Find the folder and the pic you want, left click it and hold, drag it to the message box and drop it. Done!

Anyone remember this.

I was thinking something like a whole motorsports platform that was easy to build.

Based on a fibreglass-aluminium honeycomb structure it could be sent out in flat-pack then folded and glued together. With panels either vacuum formed and shipped from a factory or hand formed from foam and covered in fibreglass. The point is it's not as labour or equipment intensive as welding. You'd likely have two chassis options, a 'grass roots' option based on some global small FWD platform that was, you guessed it, FWD and a 'super' option that might be a mid-mount configuration based off some FWD V6.

That entire two-seat trike/car body, chassis, and canopy comes in at 64kg. They estimate a four-wheeler with an open top would be 150kg or so.

So for roughly $2000 in materials plus a wreck you have yourself an open top race car suitable for most any kind of motorsports. Naturally you'd pick the mid-engine 'super' option for drag racing.

If you based the 'super' option on taking a Camry XV40 V6 (or similar) drivetrain you'd be looking at a car south of 1000kg with roughly 280hp. You'd struggle to run slower than a mid 12 with a car that would also be suitable for racing on a road circuit. Total cost for the chassis kit should be around $3000AU plus your wrecked vehicle.
