1956 chevy pickup rear pumpkin identify need help
Customer took this picture of 1956 chevy pickup 1/2 ton rear end , he say's the chunk is held in by 12 bolts , I can't identify the make / model , the ujoint flange is unusual , can anyone identify if this is a stock rear ? Customer say's the rear has 5 x 5 wheels.

Re: 1956 chevy pickup rear pumpkin identify need help
About 15yrs ago i was into the apache builds. Gmc did it different back then,
And from my memory, there was 2 differentials used.
GM SS H033 or a spicer 45.
Hope it helps.
Chevy freak.

Hiya,
I just asked a bud of mine that does rear ends, 55-64 Spicer 45, GMC only has 10 bolts.
Some more info he sent.
You might try the trifive website https://www.trifive.com/

5x5 is the big GM car bolt pattern. From the looks of the pumpkin bolts and the goofy U-joint, I'd say it was the late 50's, early 60's Cadillac rear end.

Re: 1956 chevy pickup rear pumpkin identify need help
Maybe it was OEM. GMC used Pontiac and Buick V8s and the original Hydramatic transmission, so maybe it also used the big car rear axle. Some years, when the Chev used a closed torque tube, the GMC version used an open driveline. In 1960, when Chevrolet pickups began using coil springs and truck arms, some GMC pickups used leaf springs.
