TRE Racing completely distroyed by Fire.

Post by JoePorting »

TRE Racing was completely destroyed by a fire recently. This is a good time for everyone to review their fire suppression procedures for your shop/garage.

Read on Facebook , they were dynoing an engine when the flywheel came apart and cut the fuel lines, starting the fire.
The more I know, the harder it gets.

A dyno should have fire suppression, manually operated and perhaps automatic CO2, and Purple K or Monnex hand extinguishers. Sand for magnesium.

I've seen Flywheel and Flexplate fly apart before.

Are running the fuel lines in that way typical? Why wasn't some sort of shield being used?

It often passes through my mind that younger performance enthusiasts are more exposed to engines with flywheels/clutches that will survive much higher rpm excursions without a problem. They might not have heard of or experienced this type of explosion.

Dry powder chemical extinguishers do work with mag but, it becomes a real mess. Not as messy as the fire continuing, though.
