I am afraid for the elderly when things start reopening. So many deaths at nursing homes now. I am a full time care taker for my 85 year old mom. Until things change NO ONE comes in my house. I stayed home for 32 days then went out for groceries and medicine. All these people complaining and now starting to go anywhere they want is bad news. The death tolls will rise again, simply from selfish people. Things have to go back normal slowly. I believe Trump does the best he can, working with who he has. The liberals will blame him for everything no matter what. What would the Nation be like now if Obama was president? Think about it. Or Joe Biden.

Agree 100%, econo racer. Elections have consequences and thank G-d things went the way they did in 2016. We'd be in a hell of a mess now if the elections had turned out otherwise.

I have a friend in Sweden. They have it far worse there (part of EU and have socialist government run heathcare). We keep in touch via e-Mail. He told me this yesterday......
...... I heard from several foreign news outlets that Swedish elderly were refused intensive care in order to treat younger somalis. It doesn't really surprise me but it's still saddening. Most of al because so many of the elderly are the hardest to reach with information about the government not being there for them. they simply wont believe it.

I would not be the least surprised if there was a plan to kill off the elderly in many western countries......
The sad part is...... I believe he is right and for many years now, have had my suspicions that there are those here in America who would do the same, given the chance. Pay close attention to those who tout the globalist agenda...... UN Agenda 21 and later revisions to it...... Specifically 'depopulation'. That will tell you straight away whether they are globalists or whether they support self-governing nation states such as our own.

First off really glad things weren't as bad initially as I thought they would be but it's not over!

Ok so looks like the peak is past for New York and some other places in the world but even so the deaths will keep coming at a steady rate if isolation continues. If not then we'll get another spike(in many states the peak hasn't hit) and prob another each fall/winter. The only real way numbers will drop is when there is a cure or all the vulnerable population is mostly DEAD! This is where numbers will be used to mislead! I said this awhile back and people will understand when we have enough data to show them life expectancy has dropped, the corona limit!

People still like to compare it to the flu and we already passed that number in less than a year, so give it time.

I think things will open up shortly..

If this virus affected the young like the Spanish one, do think we'd be opening things back up? Maybe it'll mutate into that?

Boot, my Dad served with the 6th Machine Gun Battalion (USMC) in the Great War (later called WWI). He was badly wounded in the battle for the Belleau Wood in June of 1918. Had a steel plate in his head, one knee held together with a metal pin and was gassed (mustard gas). He was in a field hospital near the battleground.

Told my Mom more people were dying in that hospital from the Spanish flu than from their wounds. He knew that he had to get out of there if he was going to live. He couldn't walk, so he pulled himself off his bed and out a window. Fell about 6 ft. to the ground and began pulling himself across the ground using his arms. Made it to the other side of the road, lost consciousness and lay face down in a bar ditch.

A lorry came along and the men manning it loaded it high with bodies of those who had passed. Stacked bodies on the lorry like cord wood. Saw my Dad, thought he was dead and tossed him on with the others. When they arrived where the graves were being dug, someone realized Dad was still alive and he was taken to a hotel that had been converted to a hospital and nursed back to health. He returned to his unit and fought in the battle of St. Etienne that October, a month priour to the signing of the Armistice.

Harry

May be better to post them here if you can find a couple; I think it is important to keep the memory of people alive and photographs help:

Kevin, my Dad passed at 50 but he crammed a lot of living into those 50 years. Somewhere, I have a photo of him with Mr.Grant (Grand Piston Rings) at a convention in 1928, one of him driving the mayor (Little Rock, Ark.) at the head of a parade in Mom's 12-cyl. Packard and another of him hamming it up with Miss America and Miss Canada of 1941. Probably in the suitcase with his letters, medals and photos from the First World War along with my own military papers. Buried way back in the closet. Need to dig it out one day. I don't have a photo of the race car Dad and his brother built in the 1920s, though. Uncle Frank showed me a photo of it in '66 and drove me out to see the car when I was in service and visited him in Memphis.

You need to commandeer a grandchild to find these pictures, scan them and distribute flash drives or archival discs to multiple relatives in different locations.

I scanned my Great Aunt's pictures from the first half of the past century and recently sent four more flash drives to family members spread around the country. She lived in the Sarasota, FL area during retirement (she passed away four years ago). I don't need to tell you how many times since 1980 (when she retired to there) that hurricanes have crisscrossed Florida. potentially leading to their total loss for future generations.

That's true, Kevin. We don't take a lot of photos, but we lost most of what we did have in the 1983 hurricane and the spin off tornado that took a big chunk of our roof during the storm. \

There has been some discussion on other forums I visit from time to time regarding what people will do with their stimulus check when it arrives. We file our taxes by mail and do not receive any refund check we may be due via direct deposit. So it may be a while before our check arrives in the mail. Wife and I have decided to use it to lay in supplies so we do not have to make unnecessary and non-productive trips out during the next surge.

Of course items such as toilet paper, paper towels and hand sanitizer remain in short supply here anyway. So we will need to wait until they are once again available to replenish our supplies here in any case. And the remainder will go towards paying off the new bed we bought from Mattress Mack some months back and towards paying off any credit card balances. Anything beyond that will go into our Dave Ramsey style emergency fund (6 months living expenses).

How about y'all...... What will you do with your stimulus check when it arrives?

Local news and thoughts from NW Harris County, Texas...... The Whataburger near us closed yesterday. They are building a new one on FM-1960 but it won't open for some time. My wife belongs to some sort of neighbourhood computer group and speculation there is that someone working at the old Whataburger nearby tested positive for the virus. Not sure if or when they will reopen. There is a Fuddruckers with a drive through down the road a piece. They make a great burger as well. Reckon Fuddruckers will be our weekly burger and fries place for the near future. Also have a great Italian restaurant, a great Tex-Mex restaurant and an outstanding barbeque place nearby, all with take out service. So we're good there. Probably do take out twice weekly on average. My pharmacist is an hour's drive South of here so only make that trek once every other month. Used to work down there. Have some friends down the road from there who have a Mom and Pop Thai restaurant. I do miss dropping in on them. Best Asian food on the planet. I am 72 and they are a few years my elder, so not sure if they will reopen or retire once sit down restaurants reopen. Their place is very small and their business was always the lunch crowd and early evening dinner crowd and Saturday evenings, the local karaoke crowd.

The past several days we have rec'd e-mailings from a few of our doctors and dentists and optometrists offices saying they will reopen this coming week. No word from others as yet. Wife wants to have dental exam and teeth cleaned. I will wait another 4 to 6 weeks on mine to see how things are going and I believe she will schedule her dentist visit around the same time frame. Don't really think its a good idea to rush back into pre-virus mode. Like the 1918 - 1919 Spanish flu, I do not think we have seen the last of this. Nixon and Kissinger must have been nuts. The 2-China policy we maintained from the end of WWII through 1972 was much more realistic.

Governor says barber shops and hair salons may be given the OK to reopen around the 15th or 18th of this month. No hurry to get to the barber when they reopen. One of the perks being retired. No longer have to maintain a close haircut and fresh shave and dress up and meet with groups of 20 - 30 contractors and engineers daily. Had a good close haircut and whacked the beard at the old barber shop in Conroe on New Years Eve. Beard is only 3-1/2" long now (was halfway down my chest when I cut it at end of December) so no rush there. I cut wife's hair and can do mine as well if needed. Its hard to get to the back when you cut your own hair though.

Time for Dark Shadows reruns. We've gotten from 1967 to 1970 since the shut down.

:D Y'all take care now and stay safe......

I learned that Dr Judy Mikovits is a dangerous anti-vaxer & a menace to society. Is she a Scientologist or Christian Scientist too?

Smallpox, Polio, MMR, Diptheria, Flu & recently the HPV vaccine are all tremendously succsesful, remember when the USA & USSR agreed to eliminate smallpox? It now only exsists in labs. When Polio was a thing whole wards had to be built to treat them, remember that?

As soon as the flu vaxine comes out each year I fling 20 bucks out of my wallet & get one.

Sweden has minor elements of socalism, but isn't a socialist country, for Swedes it is bad, but it aint anywhere near how bad it is in the USA.

Denmark is the most socialist country in the EU, that's one to look at. Germany has a scientist in charge instead of a lawyer or a shitty reality tv character in charge.

Australia has some socialist components too, as of May the 8th, total confirmed cases is 6,914. 6,094 recovered, 97 deaths.

Something else to ponder: It is unknown if catching & recovering from Covid-19 gives you immunity yet. Lets pray there is!

Also, this could be like the common cold where there is no vaccine to prevent it. There are a stack of trials right now, but....
So Sweden aint anywhere near as bad as the USA? The Sweden per capita death rate is 32.3 times that of the USA and their death rate per case is more than twice that of the USA , 5.8% vs 12.6%

3175 dead , 10.2 million pop, 25,265 cases....

None of that is true to the best of my knowledge, Paul. She is a whistle blower who had her civil liberties unconstitutionally violated and was falsely imprisoned for a time when she exposed Faucci and Gates and others some years ago. Now if you trust the 'fact finding' and media outlets owned, funded or heavily influenced by George Soros or Bill Gates, you might think that of her. All depends upon whom you find credible.
