The Dzhanibekov Effect

Post by miniv8 »

Pretty interesting video on how things want to rotate.
I started thinking of critical driveline speeds..

I thought the video was interesting, I did not understand a lot of the terms, ( way over my pay grade ) it was interesting to see the wing and stem flip end for end, not sure what caused that. I don't see how that relates to a driveline, as I don't think that is happening to drivelines as the video suggest's, Now Nascrap seems to have a lot of reports of vibrations in their race cars and I always wundered if the drive shaft is balanced too perfect and perhaps it may be much happier with a slight inbalance, I had a crankshaft EXPERT tell me to always leave a slight inbalance in balancing crankshafts, not saying he is correct, but I always had slight driveshaft vibrations in Ford powered race cars, the Chevy's had no issue in the same type of race car.
