Water pumps: does anyone make a remote mechanical & universl type

Post by Caprimaniac »

Hi!
As trying to get rid of things that draw a current, I’ like to switch my Meziere for a mech pump.
Thing is- I have no room for a stock type pump on the 302- block. The Meziere is placed low on the inner fender, and this setup had worked good. Although some years old, and suspect it needs some attention soon…
I’ve never seen a remote mech water pump… Oil and fuel, yes…. Would be neat tp tie a pump to skirt of block like one of those oil pumps. But dp they exist?

How much gpm is required? It would not be a big deal to whip up a belt driven pump using pumps normally used for MFI.
Remember that "gold" pump that Ron's injection used to sell with their systems? It's a flapper ProCon water pump. Same pump was used on a TIG cooler I used to own.

If you are industrious and on a quest you could round up the smallest OEM pump you can find, bolt an adapter plate to the back for in and out hoses, etc.
Unless you want it to run full time you will need to dream up a bypass.
If using some kind of fuel pump a 3 way bypass shown here could do that trick.

Took a look. Meizer has a belt driven pump.
I suspect it has chevy style internals
Now if he had just made it with a 3/8 hex drive mounting would be a breeze.

From a racing standpoint I am not sure that you aren't exchanging one drag for another.

The Ford Transit / Mondeo et al 'Puma' engine 1999> 2.0 / 2.2 / 2.4 water pump could likely be adapted with a little ingenuity

Very common in Europe, you'd be able to pick up a used example for pennies to assess suitability

Or simply plumb in a Davies-Craig electric of suitable capacity and be done with it. The cooling hoses carry the load if they are well secured.
