I can't be positive however, I believe that was the reason for the 1968 cut-off year by the rules makers.

I agree, the Boss 302 and 351 Cleveland would be formidable engines if allowed, and Mr. K has proved that in the past.

Its funny how things go. Growing up in engine shops in the 90's, 5.0l, 351W were what people brought in to work on. J302 heads, Tfs high port, the early Edelbrock offerings, then came the Twisted Wedge. There was a lot excitement around those engines.
The Cleveland guys at the time only came in two categories, the Pantera guys who would spend the money and the guys who wanted to patch'em back together. There were the occasional kit Cobra guys.
We were working with Yates headed Svo blocked engines but at the time I never really considered them a Cleveland, more of race specific engine.
In the early 2000's the crate engines were kind of killing the engine shops, and that was just about the time motorcycle companies started coming up with the modern four stroke variants. My Dad looked at the Y blocks and said no one will be fighting me for this work, so we took off in those directions for close to 20 years.
Never really saw any serious Iron headed Cleveland efforts "run" back in the day, a lot unique remnants and old race pieces guys tried back together. The biggest crack in a crank I ever found was in an old Cleveland drag race crank. A stock cast crank that was ground to 2.0 journal. Over half away around the rear rod journal and it wasn't broke :shock:
Oh well I figured since they weren't allowed they would be easy to discuss, figuring most guys wouldn't wanna talk about their actual combinations too much.

I have done quite a bit of Super Stock iron Cleveland stuff and they have a lot of braze in them.

I have had the CNC program run with no braze in the heads and it didn't cut in a lot of places but, the flow dropped a little but, power differences were negligible.
In reality, the braze was there simply to satisfy the port CC requirement of Super Stock.

Would the 1968 rule be to also cut out the use of the Cobra Jet heads?
I do not believe this is the first time that the EMC has arranged the rules to try to handicap the Fords. :wink:

The C80E-N 428CJ heads should be legal for the competition. The 429 SCJ head would not be allowed. The C8VE head would be the heads for the 429.

I think the C8VE C9VE DOVE D1VE are virtually identical. Not sure why they all have different part numbers.

So you would only fill the heads in Super Stock situation?
