How much is the hit worth?

Post by econo racer »

If your car runs 6.50 and someone elses car runs 6.0 and they say I"ll give you the hit. If they leave just after you do,whats that worth in the 1/8th? A lot of grudge racers do this.

I'd say it depends on the amount of the 'Hit'?
How would that be determined in the race?

You would hope the 'Hit' is over .5 second if he runs 6.0 and you run 6.5 seconds.

Then the reaction time would come into the equation?

We do this for fun off and on. Some times motor on nitrous. Sometimes heads up right of the trailer. :D Some times swap drivers. :D

I'm guessing 'hit' means a delay in launching for one of the cars?
Like staging a car length ahead of the other car type of thing?

Having the hit means you leave when you feel like it, and the other driver goes when he sees you go. A pro tree is 0.4 sec and drivers still red light, so obviously the total driver and car reaction time can be less than that. If you get the chance try seeing how badly you can red light on a pro tree and you'll have a decent estimate. My SWAG is the hit is worth 0.3-0.4 sec.

Thanks for that explanation, not exactly what I thought it would mean.

That would be like watching the last yellow, except you'd be watching the other car.
So, I'd be doing things to make my car 'look' like it's not moving when it is moving.
(by the time the other guy notices the car is 'leaving' you would have a longer head start)
