eagle one mag wheel cleaner ETCHING

Post by bentvalves »

does anybody remember this stuff? Made for cleaning raw alloy wheels.

so the bottle changed, and the formula changed and ontop of that all its difficult to find, anywhere. especially the etching version.

this stuff would strip aluminum of oxides and turn it a bright "whitish" color.

what product can I substitute for the once potent etching mag wheel cleaner?

I used to use this stuff to clean the inside of intercoolers and radiators to make them efficient again. worked mint.

The etching stuff was great when I was redoing an engine that had suffered a minor fuel fire, cleaned up things very nicely, Napa still has some in their brand name here that does a comparable job, I bought some this past spring and it did a fair job.

This works well

I just came here to post a picture of the NAPA aluminum brightener in a white bottle with blue label. It indeed does work well and I would consider it an equivalent to eagle one mag wheel cleaner.

thanks guys.

the inside of my aluminum radiator has been stripped of all kinds of junk and oxides due to hard water being poured into the system a few years back.

this stuff works equally well inside of old crusty intercoolers.

It certainly disappeared from auto parts store shelves however, I just got a box of 6 spray bottles delivered yesterday.

Bought them from a vendor on Ebay.

It got expensive ... over $88.00 for the six.

For general cleaning of my A/C condensers & coolers etc I have been using this stuff.
I had some nastier stuff that the A/C pros use but have to do a search for what it was.

I use the cheap Meguires Hot Chrome Wheel Cleaner. The milder stuff for aluminum wheels doesn't clean as well.

Yup, that's it. It's "usually" cheaper at Wal-Mart than through Amazon. Amazon prices seem to vary widely.

I just sprayed it on, let it sit, then cleaned it up with a stiff brush. If one was really worried about the acid etching, it can be neutralized with a water/baking soda mix. I don't bother, it's consumer grade wheel cleaner.

Never tried it in the ultrasonic cleaner.

Muriatic acid, buy it at Menards, Lowe's, buy a plastic spray bottle also , try it straight or mix with water, clean up with baking soda, cheap and fast.
