Re: WTB: Lifter/Tappet Grinder
Dave, I have a WEB tappet grinder in very good condition. It has a new grind wheel motor, new coolant pump and was repainted about 2 years ago and has had little use, only done about 150 tappets. The grinding wheel is new plus I have a spare and Regis still sells replacements.
It uses a Jocobs rubber collet which I have 3 common sizes. The collet is air operated. New Jocob's collets are still available in many sizes.
Web was a copy of the Storm Vulcan 902 which I have the manual for.
This is a good machine ready to work. $1700.
PS. I used to live in Victoria and worked for Wilson & Proctor.

Re: WTB: Lifter/Tappet Grinder
Hey Wayne long time since I have chatted with you.
Doug is gone from there and sam is the only guy left with any brains.
I guess you heard about Freds kid, boy that really screwed him up.
Anyway I thought that Web made them for storm.
It sound like a good machine setup and I am still thinking about this project. Good to know the collets are still available.
Keep in touch as I am in the middle of a reno and will be reorginizing the shop and equipment locations after it is completed.
Where are you located now? Are you still on the island?
It would be good to pop by and have a look in person
Anyway thats all I know at the moment. Keep in touch
Thanks again for the lead on your machine

Re: WTB: Lifter/Tappet Grinder
Dave, I worked for W&P in 76-77. There was no Doug or Sam there then. Al & Orval Wilson ran the machine shop then. Bob Proctor ran the Fuel injection shop. Bill Barrett & Jim McCreash and myself did the machining and engine building. It was 99% heavy diesel work then.
I'm now in New Mexico.
WEB is no longer in business. I talked to Storm and the old guy who built the 902 is still there and he sent me a print of the jig that holds the diamond dresser.
I made it and it works great.

Re: WTB: Lifter/Tappet Grinder
Yes I would say thats a bit before doug and sams time.
Fred now runs the shop and there is not a lot of work there at the moment. Sam just lives up the road from me so I get him to do some work for me from time to time. The shop sure has changed in the last10-15 years. They now have some repair
bays at the north end of the original building so that can do installs and repairs tohelp the bottom line.
I was working on some boats back then and I can't picture your face but I am sure we have talked at the shop.
Anyway I will get back to you about that tappet grinder. I am gearing up for some marine contracts and that will be a good machine to have when needed.
Talk to you soon

I worked at a big shop that had Two that were retro fitted onto tool and cutter grinders. I think they did around a thousand a day each.

Yes I have been looking at what the industry uses and looking to convert a smaller machine to use.
