I am sure they are talking calendar year, and it is calendar year 2020 until 31 December 2020
Pickup is claimed to start production in 2019 ... that's the one that I can't see happening.

I can't imagine they are planning for very high year 1 volume...a lot of hand work and just sell at a loss while they move to automate in year 2 or 3?

Anybody? 750hp and 10k ft lbs(14k Nm) of Total Grounded Torque.
Anybody know what "Total Grounded Torque" means? In all honesty, it sounds like a term they made up. They didn't say ft lbs at the tires like you would from a dyno reading. They say "Total Grounded Torque"
A term that is not defined anywhere online at this point.

Marketing people at work. I think we can figure out what it really means.
Re: WOW! The New RIVIAN pickup just premiered at LA !
I think it's more than marketing people at work.
It's really called misinformed and unknowledgeable mouths and minds at work!
Can't fix stupid!

I will buy an electric car when it will run 400 miles and recharge in the time it takes to fill a vehicle fuel tank and me pissing and paying inside! Probably in 20 minutes or so..
All for say $17,000 ..
Ain't gonna happen so I ain't gonna buy one!

Recharging as you drive is possible with the correct infrastructure. That would make non-stop coast to coast possible with much smaller/cheaper battery packs so much lower prices are also possible. But it requires infrastructure ......

This came up in the same discussion on the FB "Motorology" page. It has to do with having the 4 individually powered wheels that can develop 2500 ft lbs each. It's not total Marketing, it's a way to express tractive effort even though at zero RPM the delivered horsepower would be zero.

Re: WOW! The New RIVIAN pickup just premiered at LA !
Traditional "gas station" style recharging is just one option. If you do less than 400 miles per day and you leave home every morning with a "full tank" where's the problem?
Of course that doesn't cover every road user - only about 90% of us.

Before you make unfounded comments about the efficiency and results provided by the newer electric vehicles. Please read and study the facts and science as well as the results they are delivering before you bash their use and results! Go test drive a new Tesla R vehicle, step on the pedal and go from 0-60mph in about 3 seconds and I bet your opinions will make a MASSIVE shift!

Would you please tell us what cars you currently own that you drive on a daily basis?
Thanks

I didn't go through the link with a fine tooth comb or even this thread so I have to ask??
How are they getting a 400* mile range?
What is the power source that allows this?

As my old beater DD, I drove a '64 Ford Fairlane SW for years and years! I still miss it....
I last DD my hopped up 406 '67 350SS/RS Camaro 4-speed 3.31 12-bolt posi for one year commuting back in '86. Gas mileage was killing me with a round trip of 80 miles at 55 mph. I was getting 15 mpg! BUT the old car would RUN!!!! My word it would RUN!!
Next, I bought a new '87 Chevy Sprint ER 2-dr hatch 5-speed that got 50 mpg running 70 mph commuting for years and years. 227,000 miles worth!!
Next a new '98 Cavalier that was a POS!!
Next a new 2000 Geo Metro 2-dr hatch 5-speed that also got 50 mph but at 55 to 60 mph due to its weight.
Now, when I drive which is seldom since I have been retired for several years, my wife's bought new 2004 Buick LaSabre... SOB only has less than 18,000 miles on it so go figure!
Usually I get around town on my bicycle....
Oh, I put a new 496 in my '67 Camaro back in 2002 or so and then my Mom died and I lost interest in it. My big engine has never been started!
And to top it off, I have new engine parts gathered up in my bedroom to build a 325" SBC , -- 4.155" b x 3.00" s = 325"... And I am going to hopefully build it before I die??? I am going to shift this engine at 8,000 rpm just for the fun of it!!
(2) good mid '70's truck 400 blocks and a '66 283 block. And a pile of old double-hump and such heads that I don't know what I'm going to do with?
