And when solar power is not happening.
I see big problems ahead...
Many of the major solar power generation stations have the ability to continue generating power well after the sun is down. Sorry but that concern is not valid. Also, most car chargers are small 110 chargers that don’t allow a big draw. True, it takes much longer to charge but at least you are spreading the draw over a longer time at a lower rate.

It’s funny you mention that. The company I work for already does that, but it is in there piston driven vehicles because they sound like crap. LOL

 Yeah i thought a while back that this sort of thing would be 'the mod' of the future, dbw throttle would make it plug and play surely?
I sort of though the idea was a bit rediculous but then i was shown 'ghost cams' on YouTube tuned into modern efi cars, when they idle they make it sound cammy, i thought id seen some funny sh!t but that is really rediculous,, horses for courses i guess

Don't get me wrong guys, I love gasoline and diesel high performance racing engines and all the technology, ideas, discussion and arguments that go along with that love. It's my business, hobby, life's long enjoyment and challenge. I don't think I would survive long in an all electric world, but it is good for us all to motivate ourselves to look at appreciate new technology and innovation. As a great "car" man Lee Iacocca once said "LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET OUT OF THE WAY!"
We should refrain from bashing or standing in the way of good technology it's inherit in our DNA. There is so much room and opportunity for improvement in the internal combustion engine it would fill a set of old encyclopedias! The aftermarket and performance industry has been promoting engine performance and efficiency and it should never stop trying to make that better mousetrap. Electric vehicles are not the enemy, they are just another type of a cool mousetrap. JMHO

Like stymying growth so some old timers can hold on to the Stone Age? Sounds like the politics of a lot of countries tbh.

I can think of plenty of internal combustion technologies that would fall into the “not common sense”, until material science, better understanding of the physics, and other advancements allowed us to revisit those “not common sense” ideas and are now the industry standard.

Like this is a site where a lot are still hung up on something like a flow bench, and there is very little interest in learning new (and more modern) tools. It’s systemic to the site and the lack to want to understand new emerging technologies or advancements has hurt this site. It’s just a bunch of people talking about the same tired stuff for the same tired applications, and if there is anything learned, it’s explained via pseudo science, which doesn’t really answer the question.

It’s why I left and will leave again. Just took a peak back and can’t help myself because it’s that frustrating.

For what it's worth, I joined here 5 years ago ..I race vintage motorcycles and have a great interest in all bikes and piston aircraft engines..... A few guys here complained about my bike engine questions...... One guy, I forget who, said "it's called Speed Talk, NOT Car Talk" For what it's worth, my land speed race bike set 5 new records, thanks to what I learned here on this forum ...
I have little interest in electric vehicles but if I don't like the thread, I just won't read it.....

I just heard from one of the administrators and they are considering setting up a new technical section in the forum to cover information and discussion about the new current and emerging technology in electrical performance vehicles and electrical vehicle power systems. We might be going someplace new and interesting! Ahh Progress! Love the smell of performance, even electric motor performance. They can smoke tires you know! =D>

FWIW, a while back, at a strip day, I drove a Tesla and a 427" Cobra replica back-to-back against each other, then watched two other drivers race them. The Cobra is old school, concentrate on the launch, roaring, smoking, smelling, shaking, shifting, while the Tesla just motored away silently into hyperspace. Launching a Model S P100D in full-on Ludicrous Easter-egg mode snaps your body in a manner that is utterly impossible to replicate in any other street-legal production car on normal tires and dry asphalt at a mid-$100,000 price point. Oh, yes; no matter who was driving which, the Tesla won every time.

On the drive home, up the crowded freeway, the Cobra was just as miserable as I remember over the fifty years I've occasionally been in one. When we switched to the Tesla, it was dead silent, smooth, comfortable for four. I still haven't been in them often enough to adjust to the self-driving mode, but one can see the future from there.

Bottom line - we own and daily drive an electric. We own and occasionally drive three hot rod Studebakers.

My bought new, 1987 Chevy Sprint ER/Suzuki Swift 3-banger corn-popper 5-speed, 2dr hatch, commuter car got 50 mpg running 70 mph for years and years.

It had an 8 gallon tank so I could go 400 miles before I had to fill up.

It took me about 20 minutes to fill it up, go pay and take a piss!

So I will buy an electric corn-popper when I can go 400 miles and charge it in 20 minutes! Now, back then, I paid $6,300 for it so ratio out the cost of a new electric vehicle for me!!

Lets get REAL here guys!!!

Hello Administrator

Since a new EV/Hybrid section is now under the technical section of the forum after this post was moved to the General discussion section. Can this post and all subsequent replies be moved to the new technical section ? Please! Thank you

Since a great deal of the electric demand for recharging EV's will be done at night when demand for power is the lowest it is an inherent benefit to EV charging.

The other biggest benefit to the EV growth and technology in the transportation of people and goods around the world is that this new high efficiency and technology advancing form of engine power is that it forces the companies producing product with internal combustion engines to increase efficiencies and move to newer forms of efficiencies that benefit the improvement of fuel burning engines.

Electric and traditional combustion-engine powertrains can coexist for quite a while yet, probably longer than I'll be on this earth.

I have zero interest in electric motorcycles, but it wouldn't trouble me one bit if the van that I use to carry my gasoline-engine motorcycle to and from the racetrack, was electric, and it wouldn't bother me if my commuter vehicle was electric (and the next one probably will be). It doesn't matter if a cargo van is "characterless" :D

If you fix the CO2 and pollution and whatnot issues associated with all those run-of-the-mill daily drivers out there by switching those to electric, the CO2 and pollution and whatnot of the remaining "toys" won't really be a problem any more.

Case in point, on a typical race weekend my bike uses about 10 - 12 litres of gasoline, but the van to carry it to and fro uses about 60. And tie daily-driver that I use to help pay the bills to support all this, uses more than the van does on a yearly basis. Fix the daily-drivers and utility-vehicles and the problem 90% goes away.
