Volkswagen EV race car smashes Nurburgring lap record!

Post by Newold1 »

Volkswagens IR-EV race car crushed the Nurburgring lap record time. The current lap record was 6 minutes and 45 seconds. The VW EV race car did the lap at 6 minutes and 5 seconds, blowing away the old record by 40 seconds. Realize this record has no limitation on car type or horsepower so the record was held recently by no slouch of a car and the VW blew it away! Pretty amazing!

The electric lap record was broken. It was interesting to watch because near the end it was clear the car could not move at as high of velocities as prior. I believe the driver/team said there was only a very minimal charge left at the finish line.

That would indicate an easy path to even faster lap time - a few kg added battery weight.

Even better: eject spent batteries out the back for added thrust!

The perfectly designed racing vehicle is completely spent after the end of the race.

This is a different sort of spent. With a petrol engine one could reasonably expect maximum power until the fuel tank was emptied.

Perhaps this is a totally unrealistic expectation for an EV?
