But the fuel in the generator has ethanol, so it is burning cleaner! It’s thinking like this that is going to get our country back on top. LOL

I don't know what all this hoopla is, about electric cars and charging them.
My mechanic (pictured) assures me that they can quickly be charged using your brain waves converted to electricity.
Guess the only issue would be, having brain waves to begin with.

Re: Only in California ... maybe not ...coming to your State ??
Questions I have:
Are EV's really clean? You hear studies say they are and others say no. Copper mining is very energy intensive and not very green, and there is much more copper in a EV than in a ICE car. Proven reserves of copper are such that there will be shortages in the future if EV production really increases. That's not even taking into account the amount of copper needed for all the windmills an solar panels. THere is not enough in the world for what will be required. As supply decreases the price will skyrocket. Plus much of the grid is fossil fuel powered and it is much less efficient to use fossil fuels for the powerplant and convert that to electricity which then power the EV.I seen figures quoting the loss at 60%.
What will happen to the cost of electricity? It is going to go up significantly. How high will it go? At what point will it cost so much that lower income folks can't afford a car? Or to turn the lights on in their home. It's happening in Europe right now.
Who is going to build the grid needed and where is the money going to come from?
What about charging stations? They will need to be everywhere and exponentially more than the gas pumps that are available now, otherwise their will be massive lines of people waiting to charge their vehicles. And the time it takes is an issue too. If you were a scumbag criminal, where would you go if you knew people of affluence were in a place where they could not easily leave and were susceptible to be robbed? Easy pickings in places like LA and NYC, and many other cities nowadays.
And when there are grid issues like CA is experiencing now, did any of you realize that your car is part of the grid when it is plugged in? There are stories of people plugging their cars in at night and having less charge in the morning.
EV's seem like a step backward not forwards.
Is the Science really settled? I would argue that it is not. Many scientists will too. The founder of Greenpeace says that as well. Ask yourself this, If man made climate change was a real thing that is going to do irreparable harm to the planet in X amount of years like many say then why is the world not going after the low hanging uber polluting fruit? Why is there no push to boycott or force the worlds biggest polluters to clean up? If it's as dire as they say wouldn't military action be needed to stop these countries?
Just questions that come to my mind when thinking about this subject.

not sure if anyone seen the paper from volvo's side of their electric devision , pulsar , they stated ev are not good for the enviroment as it will take a min of 90000miles before they start to payback emissions , [ besides the point the battery is done at 150000 ] but that was the best and some are some over 120000miles
Re: Only in California ... maybe not ...coming to your State ??
Yes there have been plenty of studies.
https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... c_Vehicles
Shows that well to wheel efficiency for coal powered EV is about the same as a gasoline car. (11-27% Gasoline, 13-27% coal EV)
A very large percentage of EV charging is done at home or work. Charging stations will not be remotely comparable to the service stations we have for gasoline (except on highways.) Charging stations will appear everywhere you have car parks - shopping centres, large buildings, cinemas etc.
Discharging into the grid is not yet widely implemented and is entirely at the discretion of the vehicle owner (who will be paid a premium for the use of his EV battery as grid storage). Even then, the owner will be able to specify what state of charge he requires at a particular time of day eg when he leaves for work in the morning.
The "low hanging fruit" (electricity generation and certain industries) are indeed the first targets. However guess what - the world's biggest polluters in many cases are resisting change and have politicians under the thumb. What we are seeing in EV development is very much preliminary tip-of-the-iceberg stuff.

The low hanging fruit I'm referring to is China #1 and India #2, Brazil #3. China especially, gross pollution on the largest scale the world has ever seen. Yet the world leaders are essentially silent about China. China has over 11000 coal fired powerplants that are essentially unfiltered! And they are building more everyday. If we are serious about global warming, curbing China's emissions would be the place to start.
When world leaders and politicians start changing their lifestyle (i.e. no private jets etc) then maybe I will start to listen.

Thought this was interesting. More food for thought.

WHen Al Gore wrote his book what he didn't tell everyone was that he was one of the ground floor investors for the carbon credit market that he proposed in his book. That alone is enough to question his motives in writing the book. He lifestyle is completely antithetical to what he preaches about as well. He is just one of many, John Kerry being another big hypocrite.

In my above post I stated China has 11000 coal fired power plants. I added a zero accidently and can not edit my post now. The number is 1100 +. My apologies.

Yes China's emissions need to come down but change needs to begin at home before we start finger-pointing. - China's per-capita emissions are far lower than most western countries including yours and mine.
- China's emissions are largely about making stuff - which gets purchased by - you and me.
- China's emissions were very low while the western world was getting rich emitting CO2 (and all the toxic stuff).

They nearly double our output if you are looking at volume as opposed to per capita.

Super fuel-efficient vehicles getting 80, 100 miles per gallon? It’s not that crazy. You think I’m nuts right now for suggesting something high tech like that? Flip side of that coin, gas, 10 dollars a gallon. You can’t win them all, but we can make do, cuz we’re gonna have solar power also.
