using :
speed-talk.com
seems to consistently get on the 1st page listing and sometimes the very 1st listing at the top
better than using speedtalk.com

Re: Progress update on Don Terrill's Speed-Talk
Just a minor suggestion from a lurker who reads every forum except the politics every day: Could you please move the vendors forum list to the bottom of the drop down Jump To menu button that is at the bottom of each page? That way readers won't have to scroll past all of the vendors to get to the Classified and Other forums. Of course, if you want to "encourage" that, by all means leave it as is . Either way, thank you very much for taking this on.

dont get me wrong
just seams funny how it seams to be about attracting more , google search if its a money thing id say near all would be in to pay to keep it as is rather than change it to help pay for it , just something to consider in the future ,
to me i can explain something to customers , they go away google it and come back to regurgitate it to me but completely wrong , as it takes working through somthing to fully understand it sometime , which is why i hope this stays for the tech's , our quiet place no drama

We’re changing the domain name, because it was being sold separately from the forum, and I couldn’t afford the asking price.
It’s just that simple.

It was a good move to change it. For those trying to find it for the first time...it works

It looks like who your using and what you doing has not hampered the searches in regards to what I have seen but I don't use google so I have nothing to compare there..CamKing wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2019 6:38 pmI never gave Google Search, any thought.gunt wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2019 5:20 pm dont get me wrong

Re: Progress update on Don Terrill's Speed-Talk
An idea Don should have done is to have a donation page. I wouldn't be surprised if you made more money from a donation page then anything else. You could set it up like a Go-Fund-Me page showing how much money you received every month. If donations are falling off and your spending more money on this site than receiving, then you could advertise a fund drive. You could have a PayPal link or show an address where people could mail their checks to you.

I have Engine Tech saved to my favorites list on my computer. With windows 7, a right click will give you the option to add the page to favorites. I don't have a clue how it would work with windows 10.
So much to do, so little time...

Re: Progress update on Don Terrill's Speed-Talk
There are a lot of different factors that can effect searches. Google and the other major search engines are already way way more advanced than most people think. No more do "keywords" or "back links" have the effects that people think. Major website changes can knock you down for a bit but as long as people keep coming, you will move back up. I used to work for a firearm parts manufacture. We redid the website a few years ago, even using the same domain our search results tanked for a few months. Each week though it would move us up until finally we were right back where we started. You are already doing a lot of good to keep the search engines interested. Fresh content that draws visitors and keeps them reading is one of the top items that effects ranking on a page. If you sign up for googles webmaster tools you can get a little more insight into how the search engine processes the site and what it likes vs what it thinks you may want to change. Searching for "speedtalk forum" already shows that google has found the new domain and its right under the old one. Once the old domain goes away, the new should move right up to the top spot.

Re: Progress update on Don Terrill's Speed-Talk
We've been lucky we still had some control over the old domain as such that a '301 Redirect' could be implemented. Search engines read that as a 'permanent move' to another domain.
And I've been able to forward a requested (old) forum-url, toward our new domain. Meaning when someone on the internet finds and clicks on a link that still points to an older forumtopic under the old domain, the request is automaticly forwarded to the new domainname and forum-path.
I tried to make sure the forum-path is the same as the old forum.
Losing search results (and ranking) is indeed a bad thing for a website to encounter.
Eventhough, I'm fairly sure Google will re-index this forum fairly quickly again, as its size and age is of some importance as well here.
