Why the URL change?

Post by whammy »

What a fantastic way to break thousands of links to relevant conversations from other sites that would drive traffic here. Hope there was a screaming obvious reason for doing this that I'm missing a clue on...

Well, that sucks. I'm left wondering who's going to hijack the reputation of the content here after they sink their teeth into the old domain name. Thanks for the explanation.

For right now, the links will be re-directed to the correct post.
I'd think when that re-direction quits working, that one could just add the hyphen between speed and talk in the link they are trying to use.
(or even do that now if wanted)

Old links to the former site are indeed currently converted to the new site. However, this is URL-conversion happens on the old server where the old domain still points to.
For as long as the old speedtalk-domain and the old webserver are active, any visitor will end up here.

As far I can tell, Google has already indexed some 7.5K pages on the site's new domain/server.

Best solution I can think of is to spread the word on other sites/forums about the domain change.
