About TFX Engine Technology Inc.

Post by nitro2 »

TFX Engine Technology Inc. has been a leader in cost effective, high speed, cylinder pressure data logging/analysis since 2001.

Cylinder pressure is directly responsible for power/torque. The technology to measure cylinder pressure, and thereby record exactly what was going on in the cylinder under high load race conditions, existed for several years prior to 2001, and some companies sold such equipment, however those systems were designed for lab technicians/engineers and the cost was exorbitant.

By 2001 we had learned all the ins and outs of the technology, and were in a position to offer ruggedized equipment at costs that many race teams could afford. To be honest we had expected to be swamped with orders on Day 1. The ability to easily record cylinder pressure and intake/exhaust port pressures, per degree of crank rotation at any/load speed, either on the dyno or right on the race vehicle, and analyze it was an intuitively obvious advantage, right ? Wrong lol. In 2019 it is obvious to most, but in 2001 it was obvious to almost nobody.

TFX has always regarded the technology as a competitive advantage, and so have most of our customers. A notable example is the Ray Price Nitro Harley drag race team who in the early part of the 2010s set about making their bike a lot faster using our equipment. They increased their best trap speeds from about 220 mph to just under 240 mph. Unfortunately Ray died in 2015, the long term goal was to break 250 mph (naturally aspirated nitro engine).

TFX systems consist of 3 major components: Analyzer + Sensor(s) + Multi Vehicle Crank Sensor Adapter. All connections are USB and quick disconnects, all pre-wired. We can even supply a laptop with the hardware/software pre-installed and tested for a very reasonable price, if one needs a truly turnkey system.

The key to getting from A to B with the equipment is not the data logging, the data logging is a given, the key is the analysis. Part of the analysis is that generated automatically by the software, the other part is knowing what to do with that info, which is where years of experience comes into play, something we are able to offer the customer.

Any engine can make use of the technology. No engine is too developed, or conversely too low down the ladder, to make good use of the technology. The beauty of the equipment is that it could be used on a ProMod drag car and on a Motocross bike all in the same afternoon, if one wanted to. :)
