A hy-cam??

Re: A hy-cam??
I would put my 280/246, 108/108, .500" lift solid lifter cam in it instead of a hy-cam if I really want to rpm the dog sh*t out of it!

The only thing it's good for, is a door stop.
It's an extremely lazy cam with a lot of duration, with very little lift and area.

Mike have you seen that grind ? I haven't but did use trw cams in the 70's . I had in with local jobber warehouse that sold a lot of trw and it was readily available and affordable . The some of the trw grinds were pretty meaty lookin over the nose worked good even with low lift . I didn't even own a degree wheel then .

Re: A hy-cam??
The cam is ancient, hasn’t been built since Federal Mogul acquired TRW over 20 years ago. It belongs in the recycling bin, or back in that engine if required by budget, nowhere else.
Re: A hy-cam??
It might be fine in a 265 engine with big valve heads so that it doesn't lift the valves high enough to hit the tops of the cylinders??
Just have to figure out how to have a good CR for it?? Probably in the 12 to 12.5 to 1 CR range??

Re: A hy-cam??
Doesn't it have more valve lift and 0.050" duration than your fav 097 cam?

Re: A hy-cam??
Stan,
Please post back GM's spec's for the old -097 cam, including advertised duration.
And I just got a spec sheet from Crane just now for it.
I want to compare both of them is all.
And right more lift than the old -097 cam
But a hy-cam vs a solid lifter cam here.
Thanks,
pdq67
PS>, I say advertized spec's because the old 30-30 cam has been listed at advertised duration from 346 to 313 to 290, so go figure??
