What would this hy-cam be good for?

The hy-cam is a TRW, TP-146, spec'd at 308/244, 108/106.5, .429" lift.

It was in the .020" over, 283 block that had cast rebuilder flat-tops in it and a good pair of big valve -291 heads that I got from my Nephew years ago..

I ran the DCR on it in that engine and it was like 5.3 or so! Yikes.... I bet that it wouldn't pull a, "whore*", off Archie Bunker's, " terlit"!!

if so, what did you calculate its static compression?

Lets see..

.020" over 283;

Notched cheap cast rebuilder flat-tops, (6 cc notches, (??)), and a DITH of like .025" or maybe even .040"(?);

Blue comp. head gaskets (.040")?;

Probably 66 cc chamber, (291 big valve heads).

So figure it.

I think SCR was like 7.5 or less??

It's all out in my garage in a big bucket.

Either use a 51-53cc chamber head on it or supercharge it with the low compression ratio.
You'd love this lil sbc with a Weiand 142 blower or the Edelbrock/Eaton MP122HH "E Force" blower.

The only reason I got the 283 is that hopefully the block would bore to 4.00"s to make another old junk301.

But you are right, blow it and have more fun that John Law will allow.

Now, BTTT, what is that cam good for?? I know that it is way old-school, but what would it be used for??

Why do you need to bore it to 4" ? Bore it 040 or .060.
Plenty cubes strong cylinder walls.
U seem fixated on certain things. That really inhibit actually enjoying what you got at a price you can afford.
Wasting all that money on the odd ball 325 when you got a 283 to build into your dream small cid solid lifter street screamer..

The small cid sbc's are increidible when street supercharged and really rev up and go.

291 small block with ported 291 heads, flat tops and a lil blower with a street friendly high rpm solid lifter cam/valvetrain..
That trw cam is worth more as "wall art" Thats what craigslist to s for.

Your old friend UDHarold has some great off the shelf solid cams just right for a lil street supercharged 283 (291)

I am just curious is all so why did somebody pick it to go in a .020 over low compression 283 Or did they not know any better?

So, at what lifter raise is the 308 degrees measured at?

Is the 244 @ 0.050"?

Is it a single pattern cam?

pdq I got an idea , get on building your 325 and set up valvetrain for 575 lift and then start with this one , then try one of your old favs and then one picked by the board . oh ya better get the bb going first and then when you see what a pig it made your car put a sb back in

It will run like other 244 ish hyd cams more or LESS.
how you install it +/- will tweek it. (more/less bottom)
Works with stock valvetrain and can shim up z/28 springs for effect. can use 1.6 rockers for more valve lift.
Like a comp 292h cam but minus the lift and valve open flow area. needs compression and rpm

Street stock bomber cam with z/28 springs and advanced for effect. 100 to 104 in C/L. 10:1 cr (305ho heads on a 350) aggressive gears to keep the engine rpm up 3500++ stall

or just rebuild the 283 with the heads cut and shim gaskets the 300-36 intake with 1850 holley and advanced cam like f-bird says. it would run on 87 and put that pull forever grin back on your face .
