Later 300 engine in a 61-65 Econoline Pickup

A friend has a very nice restored '64 Econoline Pickup with the factory engine(170 cid) still in it. Any leads, ideas or suggestions on how to fit a late model Ford inline 300 cid engine in it?

I don't know for sure but, won't it take some cutting to get a 300 in it?

A easy install would be a bored 250, .040 over is 255 ci.

Yes, it seems like it will take some 'cutting' to get the 300 in place. Since the interior and exterior are fully restored, the more straight forward approach seems to be swapping in a properly setup 250.

www.classicinlines.com; good information here on that engine family. The 250 is a great platform for modifications; a mild build will be light years ahead of what you have.

As mentioned, the 250 was a nice Engine and should drop in?

I replaced a tired 144/170 with a 250 in a 1960 Frontenac way back.

The 250 was a bullet in comparison!!

Ford info says 65 was the first year for the 240.....The 300 is the same series as the 240..Should be a bolt in with factory parts unless the 300 is longer or higher than a 240...
