Anyone grinding cams for Desoto Hemis?

I’m looking for a hot street cam for a naturally aspirated 341. I have not contacted Hot Heads but they do not list anything. Contreras cams in California used to grind early Hemi cams but not sure now. And sadly, Chris Nelson has passed away.

Anyone know of any other options? Thanks.

I had a Chevette cam reground by a company called Elgin. I believe the owners name is Dema. Wonderful service and a very nice, good performing cam .I believe they grind for all engines.

Yes, Iskenderian still has the masters for anything they ever offered, but they're sixty-seventy-year-old tech. It will be inexpensive and quick turn-around.

Yes, Dema Elgin can grind a cam for anything. Some of his profiles are more recent, some are old school. He's a small shop with a lot of friend's projects, so wait times vary.

Most of us wish we had the considerable wait time and the budget to ask Mike Jones to give us the latest and greatest.

We can grind almost anything.
I'm making a set of custom tool steel cams for a 1912 Packard, right now.
Compared to that, your Desoto is modern. :lol:

The only issue we run into, is getting cam cores. We can make billet cores, but we normally need to make at least 10 pieces, to be realistic on pricing.

The cam cores are forged steel and I do have them...but....The lobes would need to be welded as there's not enough lobe to regrind to a different profile..I do remember you saying welding is not something you do....

Correct, we don't weld on cams.
We would have to make new billet steel cam cores.

I ran into something I've never seen before on the 1912 Packard cams. Since the car doesn't have an electric starter, they have a mechanism that pulls the exhaust cam forward in the block, so the roller lifters ride over a .060" compression release bump on the base circle(on the rear of the lobe). as
soon as the engine starts, the cam moves back in the block, so the roller follower rides on the part of the base circle without the bump.

For a couple of days, I couldn't figure out how I was going to add the compression release, without having to make multiple masters, and have a custom profiled wheel made.
My solution was simple. We milled a blind hole in the base circle, when we made the cam cores, then after we finished grinding ,we pressed a hardened ball bearing into the hole, with only .060" sticking up above the base circle.

megacycle makes that triumph twin cam, the 510-x2, which is relatively new. 296@020, with 0.375 lift. the rest of their stuff is repro or their own old stuff, like you say

i just looked at the MAP website, and they have what appears to be a new one with 326@ 020 and 0.450 lift. god forbid. their hot stuff seems mostly out of stock, maybe permanently these days.
