sbc intakes manifolds
which is the better intake team-g, super victor, or holley strip dominator. i have 2 out the 3 team g, and holley strip. and i'm wondering will it be a waste of money to go by a super victor or should i put that money in having 1 that i already have ported.

Your limiting factor is the head, if they are standard port, not using offset rockers, most likely you won't see a significant difference. Super Victor or Strip Dominator work fine, never used the Team G.

depending on how much CFM your AFR220 Heads are Flowing
the Engine size and desired RPM Range,
the Team G "Race version " isn't a bad Manifold
it has a very wide TQ Curve and very great TQ down low
for a Street application.
there are 2 Team-G's a Street version and the Strip version.
the weird thing is the Strip version makes way more very low RPM TQ
and beats the "Street version" everywhere in the TQ Curve !
(some Magazine had an Article on the Manifolds w/ Dyno tests results,
in those Dyno tests..they saw the same results i saw,
the Team G Race manifold made more low RPM TQ
than the Team G Street manifold )
if you interested in more low to mid range TQ
the Race Team G version is recommended
if you want more mid to hi RPM HP,
the Holley Strip Dominator 300-25 w/2" spacer or 1 inch spacer
or a 1 inch spacer with another 1 inch 4=hole spacer ontop
is a great combination
i wouldn't use the Edelbrock Super Victor out-the-box shape
if you want a lot of hi rpm HP,
the Holley 300-25 will make more HP
if you want to rework the Edelbrock 's Plenum area drastically
then the Edelbrock by far will make the most HP on AFR220's
if it was my Combination i'd use the Edelbrock Super Victor
w/highly modified Plenum Area
or use the 300-25 if you don't want to do any plenum porting
another great manifold is the GM Bowtie
it will be about dead even HP as the 300-25
if both are out the box shape

Larry is the man to listen to, unless you want to port or have ported a SV, then use the Strip Dominator. By the way Larry, what has to be done in the plenum area? I have a 4150 and a Dominator version, messing with SB2 stuff now but still curious.

Last months "Chevy High Performance" magazine had a very good comparison between several SBC manifolds. This was one of the (unfortunately) rare times a car rag actually did tests over several manufacturers.
They took a garden variety 500 HP 383 SBC and started swapping intakes. The dual planes were tested with a different (smaller) cam than the single planes. For the Edelbrock RPM Air Gap they ran tests with both cams.
I do not have the magazine in front of me, but a lot of manifolds were tested. Included were Edelbrock, Weiand, World, Holley, and GM. The Edelbrock RPM Air Gap was the surprising performer.

When you want to compare manifolds, especially if high HP is your gold, the manifold MUST be correctly reworked for max power. Out of the box is one think, but reworked for max HP might be completely differant. On any serious engine, I have seen 25-27 HP in just reworking the exsisting manifold. up to about 1.5 HP per cubic inch, it is not too important, as the HP output goes up towards 1.8 or 2.0 to one, the manifold is going to be come very important. The magazine test showed this very same thing.. at the HP output they had, all the manifolds were very close to each other.

I believe they tested the 10051102 Bowtie Single Plane. I'm still in shock that they ran a true test across all these manufacturers. It really silences all the manufacturer's hype. I wish they would do much more of this kind of testing.

serious engines I run go from 5500 to 8500 ( whatever ) I will tell you this. It is VERY hard to improve the low to mid range on almost anything. this includes cams, headers, intakes and so forth. On the dyno, I like to start 500 below the torque peak, and rev it up 500 above the HP peak. sometimes you cant do this, but I try to.

If I wanted to have an intake ported do thay need the heads as well as the manifold?
Would there be a 20 hp diff on a motor under the 1.5 hp per cube?
I have a 434ci motor that I shift out at 7500 rpm with heads that flow 305 cfm @ 28'' on a 4.155 bore.
Also can some one post or PM how much porting an intake cost.
I have been looking at the Bow Tie, motown, or the Dart. I have the Holley 300-110 on the motor know. I would like to pick the car up a notch or so.
