From my research, I'm just not signing up on a 212 @50 intake lobe on a low restriction 6.0 ls meant for 5500-5800 peak hp and a 6000 shift, with a 2500 stall, unless it's on a way advanced intake centerline. It is not a sbc.

First another question I forgot to ask. How are you using this truck and why are you shifting it a 6000rpms?

What are you describing when you mention 1.8 ratio rockers?

Second don't put to much stock in 10 year old dyno-jet wheel measurements on GTO's on a internet forum from a vendor trying to sell his head work.

Your truck is not a GTO and is not going to be a 5.7, it's a 6.0L

A lot of good new things have been learned and applied in the last 10 years to the LS engines, their improved upgrades, aftermarket parts, and better power production.

Remember your 4L60E has a pretty low first gear ratio versus for example a 4L80E and that helps with low rpm acceleration and uses higher rpms of the engine where torque is higher while accelerating.

I think a lot of advice from people here like Kieth will stand you well if you listen and try to learn more what some people who really can help with strong advice.

Try not to become a self taught expert even before you have built and received great results for a planned engine before you even complete and test it.

Not meant to be critical of your thoughts or ideas, just trying to say study, learn, listen and profit from the experience of knowledgeable others.
Some of them really already know what you hope to!

This was an article by Richard Holdener building a 6.0 ls using a COMP Cams XR265HR cam .558/.563 lift , 212/218-degree duration and 115-degree lsa vs a factory lq4 6.0 cam. He even used small port/valve 5.3 heads with the larger cam.

That's pretty much the spec on the Crane and the cam Kieth and I were recommending 212/218. Your smaller 205/210 cams will drop power and torque way off in a 6.0L as this latest dyno sheet shows that quite clearly. Notice the torque values are up over stock all the way from 3000 rpms and up.

You can spin it to 6000 rpms with those smaller cams but it has already fallen on its face!

Still did not get an answer for shifting at 6000rpms??

Howards Cams 190315-08. 260/264 in/ex advertised @ 0.006, 210/214 @50, 595/598 lift, 108 lsa, 104 icl.
I am very interested in this grind for my truck 6.0, though i wonder about valvetrain life expectancy with the short duration/ high lift design.

Here's a neat calculator for determining rpm vs mph, and shift rpm vs next gear rpm. Pretty neat tool to isolate the critical rpms for acceleration vs transmission gearing.

Don't ya love happy dyno's? The stock 6L made ~425hp :lol: Just tools and it does show the increase.
Here's a dyno plot of a bone stock 2008 5.3L pulled from the junkyard, it was rated at 315hp and that was exactly what it made. Pulled the heads on the first cam change to install valve springs and put LS7 lifters in and a quick .003-.005" cut on the heads. I was pretty tired after 5 cam changes and 3 intakes per cam change so I didn't worry about fixing the fuel curve that caused the dip below 4500 :? . It's my "hotrod" cam kit. :)

Just saw a post from Madbill where he wants to see it pulled 500rpm past peak. My poor little junkyard 5.3L, but I did it anyway that day. :mrgreen: Those long runner intakes fall off hard after 6000.

Are you playing here or will you please indicate why your are talking about shifting a pretty mild 6.0L at 6000rpms in what sounds like a street driven truck? :?:

Hi all!! I have a 2000 chevy 1500 4x4. 4L60 trans with 2500 converter, 3.42 gears, and stock size tires. Probably 5000 pounds or so. Building a 6.0 to replace the 5.3 and looking for all the midrange torque possible with a 6000rpm shift. Trailblazer ss style truck intake, 799 cathedral port heads(similar to ls6 243 heads), 10.3:1 cr, long tube headers, low restriction inlet and ex systems. I'm really leaning towards something in the 200-205 intake, 205-210 ex at 50 to shoot for a 55-5800 peak. Maybe on a 108-110 lsa to get all the midrange torque possible? A rough idle is acceptable, and i have software to tune it. Any thoughts or opinions?

Thankyou for the advice and experience guys. The ideas pointing me towards a small cam are 5000ish lbs, 3.42 gears, 2500 converter, 6000rpm shift, and the wide gear ratios of a 4l60.
My research of 5.7 and 6.0 ls engines with headers and low restriction inlet&exhaust seems to indicate cams with over 210 at 50 intake duration begin to push the hp peak to 6000-6200ish rpm, sacrificing some useful low rpm torque. Though most are using a fairly retarded 114ish Intake centerline.

I'm not sure what I left out Newold1.
