Paint stripper Banned

Post by BOOT »

Ok so I saw something last winter on like 20/20 or w/e bout a kid who decided to strip the paint on his bicycle in the bathroom and he died. The mom was of course mad and was trying to get it banned I think, I wasn't the one watching it and figured it was not gonna happen. So today I went all over and could not find any paint stripper/remover, well except one can for $85.

I am so sick of one person who can't read directions and someone else who has to blame anyone but themselves ruining it for the rest of the country!

So now I gotta go to all the ma n pops little NON-chain stores and look for some less overpriced or go pay waaaaay to much at that one place. Might even have to go to Canada LOL

Rant off!

Where are you located ???? I just bought some at Lowes no more than a week ago to strip and old wooden office chair. They had plenty on the shelf. I think it was about $12 for a qt but I really wasn't paying that much attention to the price.

Was it Aircraft paint remover with methylene chloride? The only stuff that I saw at HD was for wood, our local Lowes closed but from what I've read they also pulled it from the shelves.

As I understood it ... it was only banned to be sold in retail outlets.
Wholesale or professional outlets are not affected.

Another example of a parent who did not train their children to follow instructions, and did not monitor what he was doing in the house bathroom with a bicycle. Everyone has to be accountable, and responsible for their actions. Not an accident, but poor judgment, and poor adult supervision. Joe-JDC

Been coming for some years now. As Walter said, the restrictions are largely targeted at the consumer level and not at those holding a EPA hazmat generator number. That said, we all can expect increasing restriction going forward as chemicals that are environmentally persistent or are classified as carcinogens, mutagens or teratogens come under increasing scrutiny at the federal level and increasing risk management exposure pressure by the courts.

Methylene Chloride, DDT, Chlordane --- ALL good stuff that's now banned!

If I clean any parts, I now use gasoline!!

Oh, and by the way, Berrymann's basket in a can carb soak is made two ways!

One formulation for Cali and one for the rest of use!! I called and asked them years ago and got told so by the guy I talked to.

Probably all Cali formulation now??

Back again, I have used, "Easy-off", oven cleaner to strip paint off small car parts in the past.

It is slow, and takes a couple of try's, but it will work..

Can we still buy MC in larger quantities, (5 to 55 gallon containers), but not in quart cans at the local paint or hardware store?
