More Ignition Problems
I have the thread on here, Ignition Problem, where I all of a sudden had a no start. Well I seem to have more problems. I hadn't had to much time to fool with it so I ordered a pick up for the MSD dist, in the mean time I started it the other day and it was popping out of the exh, at times it spits back through the carb. Timing jumps around, timing is locked and it was steady before. After the no start it set for 20 minutes and fired right up, ran great all the way home. Next time I started it I have all these problems, pick up came, I put it in but it didn't make any difference which I kinda expected. The 6AL box ran great on a friends car and also in mine when first installed but the only thing I can figure is it's went bad, I just never seen one act like this. Any other ideas or help before I order a new one?

Re: More Ignition Problems
What's the battery voltage at?
And how much of that is actually getting to the ignition system?
How much voltage during cranking?
I would start and measure things and try to exclude parts first.
My suspicion is on the distributor for now.

Re: More Ignition Problems
Voltage, grounds, all have been checked. Only thing in the distributor is the magnetic pick up and it's new. The 6AL is the older one, I ordered the newer one from Summit, I think it's the 6425.
Re: More Ignition Problems
To expand on this, also check the voltage at the main hot wire and smaller, keyed hot wire to the 6AL. MSD says any significant difference in voltage between the two will blow the box. Not that the box is blown. Just something else to check.BigBlockMopar wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 4:30 am What's the battery voltage at?

Re: More Ignition Problems
Got the new 6AL box today, put it in and it runs great now. I'd had the timing set at 40 total, locked out and after putting the new one in I checked it and it was on 52. Someone suggested checking voltage, I'd done done that, big red wire has 14.7 running, switched wire had 12.5, as far as grounds I over do them. Alt is a 140 amp, more than it needs but I'll never have to worry when I put the electric fans back on it.

Consider adding a MSD filter cap,vht wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 3:53 pm Got the new 6AL box today, put it in and it runs great now. A good test is worth a thousand opinions.
