5.9 Cummins
Hey guys
I am looking for a flanged repair sleeve to go to 4.015" bore 9SDT Bore ) thats 7 1/2" long ???
Does anyone here use them and have a single on the shelf???
I am in need of a single sleeve if they can be had to do a repair. I don't want to use a straight sleeve as the
injector tip came off and tagged the bore ring ridge making a dent.
There is a 6-8 week wait from both Darton and LA Sleeve and just trying to get customers engine block repaired
for him before summer weather is gone for good.
ANY LEADS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
Dave

Try Powerbore out of Ohio. They were alot quicker on the last set I ordered and cheaper to boot in Ductile.

Is that the full name of the place ?? A search reveals 100's of options.
Do you have a contact number?
And that was specifically for a 5.9 cummins with a flanged top? Or just random sleeves in general?
Thanks again

Try Advance Sleeve.
Call Melling sleeve they will custom make you one only in grey iron though. Not ductile.

Re: 5.9 Cummins
i don't feel you need a flanged sleeve in this case.
Straight sleeve should be fine.

Can't take the chance. The dent in the bore is hard up to and under the deck.
\Flanged sleeve while a bit more effort will take the worry of a potential leak out of the question.

Ok, I don't want to start an argument. perhaps seeing it would make it clear, or there is some special head gasket involved or who knows,
Just right off the top of my head, if it isn't cracked clean through, then you don't need a flanged sleeve.
I've put a LOT of sleeves in these, Can't think of any other scenario, tho I haven't seen it all.

Re: 5.9 Cummins
the dent measures deeper then the sleeve thickness and it has pushed the bore outward just where the cyl. meets the deck.modok wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 11:07 pm Ok, I don't want to start an argument. perhaps seeing it would make it clear, or there is some special head gasket involved or who knows,

Again its 74 hours to remove the engine never mind doing the repair so just to be safe I would rather be of the safer side.
And if it has to come out its cost from the marina is billed to me @ $135.00/Hr per person involved in the job + any parts + the lift out of the water.
So the extra time and effort is worth the trouble to make it perfect.

Did he get back to you ? He has always been very good about calling pretty quickly. I need to call him in the morning and order a sleeve for an engine I am working on.

Re: 5.9 Cummins
It worked just great. had to trim down the OD of the flange but other then that smooth sailing
My main concern was the damage to the original bore was so close to just under the deck to save the block
it would be easier to use a flanged sleeve.
Scuffed/scored bores I just use a regular sleeve with a landing at the bottom or the factory bore. While there
is some quality differences in material for the sleeves I feel the HP style is the better option over the
other choices of just a std. gas engine sleeve just because of the wearability of the block material compared
to a much softer gas engine sleeve reduces the over all quality of the repair.
