Combustion chamber comparison

Re: Combustion chamber comparison
I might have to check with one of the other shops in town to see if they have any of those E7 heads kicking around.
I’m somewhat curious to see what my “the most for the least” approach would yield for numbers.

Re: Combustion chamber comparison
Find some E5AEs (not the other E5’s). They are more challenging if you don’t want to hit water in the bowl
Re: Combustion chamber comparison
I don’t see myself messing with the E5’s........ unless:
A- I had already messed with the E7 head a little
B- there happened to be an E5 head sitting here
C- I really had nothing else to do

I did a little work to the chamber...think it will be better now?

Re: Combustion chamber comparison
Must be that Speedmaster sale was too good to pass up.
Should make that 1hp/ci now.
Will they receive a little whittling?

Re: Combustion chamber comparison
It’s a Promaxx 9175...summit had them on sale plus another $50 off for some promotion they are running. Comparing the price of these vs guides, a few valves, machine work, valvetrain, etc on the iron heads...it was pretty much a no brainer at this point. And...these should make a wee bit more power.
I’m going to try to run these across Gary’s flow bench this weekend. I’m not planning on whittling on these any but that kind of depends on what they flow. If they flow close to advertised, they won’t need any additional porting.

I have seen one of those. It didn't look bad at all.travis wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 5:52 pmIt’s a Promaxx 9175...summit had them on sale plus another $50 off for some promotion they are running. Re: Combustion chamber comparison
It is actually a very nice casting...the finish and detail is as nice as anything I’ve ever seen and certainly better than a lot of the lower end heads I’ve seen. The E5AE’s will still get used but on something more appropriate.
Here is some pics with a felpro 1262...

Re: Combustion chamber comparison
If they flow anything even close to the advertised numbers, 400-450hp should be “no problemo”(with the right combo of parts, of course).

Re: Combustion chamber comparison
I didn't test it but I think they flowed about 250/150.

Re: Combustion chamber comparison
I see you went with a better head, which is better LOL duh, but I would have run the open one if you had supporting parts, us FE guys have to make do with some crappy chambers, especially early iron!
The trick would be to have a nice tight quench, .040-.045, even if you have to go proud, and a piston with a quench pad that matches that head. I certainly would love to have two quench pads in the chamber to keep things racing around, but if you ever look at an FE, we have to deal with one pad on one side and a goofy little step near the spark plug that you can't even really build a piston to match. They do fine with some thinking, and usually end up with a little more timing 36-38 but it's also a bigger bore.

Re: Combustion chamber comparison
I hope they do better than 150 on the exhaust. I got that out of my D0OE’s with 15 minutes of work and a 1.50 valve!
Re: Combustion chamber comparison
I hope you get to flow them. I am just thinking back and those are the numbers I was told. I would at least do a bowl blend.

Re: Combustion chamber comparison
Can somebody explain to me why you would hope for 150 cfm on the exhaust port and not even talk about the intake?
