Promaxx 9175 sbf flow numbers

I was pretty stoked after getting the intake numbers, then kind of bummed over the exhaust numbers. Here’s what we got...

Post up some bowl pics. I bet it would not take much to pick them up a bit in your lift range.

I wouldn’t get too worked up.
For what you’re doing you don’t need killer ex ports anyway.

Make sure the VJ isn’t part of the problem, blend what ever looks ugly....... if you get another 10 cfm(160-ish) at a lift you can use...... you’ll be fine.
Somewhat handy with a die grinder.

I am not sure how much I trust the ex numbers on my bench, his valve jobs look very nice and multi angle and all the seat rings are hand blend very nicely into the port and ports are very smooth with no irregularity on the ssr's... everything about the heads looked really good especial for a budget head.

We tried a little piece of 2" x 3.5ish long piece of pipe I had just for the heck of it and it picked up... Travis has the numbers but I think it was over 10cfm.

I think for your application I would radius that throat cut in the exhaust, without increasing throat ratio. Lap the seats to see how they are and run em.

It picked up 20 cfm with that short piece of pipe that was really too big...much bigger than the port. You could never get a header that big on these...it would overhang the bolt holes...but it did kind of give me an idea what was going on there. A search this morning kind of confirmed it. Apparently since the port is so short, there isn’t enough port length after the short turn for the air to straighten out, so it goes kind of turbulent at the flange. A 10-12” pipe after the flange supposedly gives the air plenty of distance to straighten out and this helps flow numbers everywhere.

But...I do wonder about the exhaust side of your bench now comparing these numbers to my other couple sets of ported heads. The D0OE’s exhaust port is smaller, rougher, not near as nicely shaped, and has a .100” smaller valve with a single 45* seat. I suspect something is rotten in Denmark.

I’m going to upgrade the studs to 7/16”, try a different set of guide plates, lap the valves, and run them. I think they are going to run awesome

It would be interesting to test them turned around on the bench and with a correct size pipe, I sure would not hang my hat on my benches exhaust numbers, I have some ex numbers from Kim's bench on some un ported/no pipe 200cc heads like I am working on so if I get a chance I will ck one of mine north, south, east and west to see how they compare to his #'s. I usually just clean them and ck for sound and call it a day.

When I had a SF-110, I had quite a few heads that would pick up pretty big by turning the head around.

By the pics, it certainly “looks” like the ex port would be better than that.
Somewhat handy with a die grinder.

It's been a while since I have done it but it seems like sbc heads one port will flow good facing the machine and the opposite one has to be facing you. My guess is the way the air comes out of the shallow plenum.

I found it was usually better with the exhaust valve on the right side of the bore adapter.

And then if you had some core shift in the heads that favored the #1/#5 ex ports, you could really have a pretty big disparity in the flow numbers between the right and left ex ports.

I have a pair of used Ede 60229’s here to get looked over before they get put on a new short block.

I stuck one on the bench just to see what the numbers looked like.
This is the RPM head with the 1.90 intake valves, 1.60 exhaust.
Ex port sounded nice and smooth, manometers steady....... no tube.

You should flow test the Exh port without the valve as that can point you in the right direction as to where to rework.
