I agree with PRH
Won't take much for those heads to pick up
Curious as what throat size and flange height and width.
Blend top cut into chamber, throat to 87%
And measure CSA through the Port.
I just reworked my cast dart heads for upgrades for next year
1.5"valve
1.40" x 1.35" flange
87% throat
73cc
I am at 194 cfm @ 0.650"@ 28"
Port very smooth and quiet
370-350ft/sec across the roof with short 1 5/8 pipe,
Test velocity to 45"
450 ft/sec across the roof sounds smooth no turbulence.
Tested with tri-y headers and full exhaust system @28" and 45"
It was down 20cfm @ 28"
It was up to 234 cfm @ 45"
What it all means - probably not much
But overall I am happy with the exhaust port
This is with a 10deg solid stem valve
Tested with undercut valve I used all this year, turbulence from. 200"-.400" and cfm down.
Tested with a ditch cut head
Noise right through and cfm down.

The exhaust port flange on these is 1.268”x1.330”...pretty dang small (almost like they was sized for a 1 1/2” header). So maybe the 170-180cfm range at 28” isn’t too bad (with a pipe). But, since I like to overthink things, I wonder if the extra 4* exhaust duration I have is “enough”.

E5AE vs Promaxx, same gasket. The E5AE’s flowed 134@.550” with no pipe...only about 16 cfm less with a 1.45” valve vs the Promaxx 1.60” valve

Since you’re so intent on doing something with epoxy, how about you make me a test pipe

Will a bong work? I don't have anything to test it with...

All joking aside I do have metal, a plasma cutter and a welder if you want to fab up something... you may have to get here before midnight though. I also have some aluminum and pop rivets.

No, no, no...I’m not going to destroy your bong in the name of science

I’ve got some material and pipe pieces...I’ll dig through everything and see what I can come up with. I’ve still got to find the missing box of Holley parts as well too

As long as it makes good power on the "high" end without hurting the low end I'm good :D

Does anyone have any flow numbers for the Promaxx 225 cnc heads for a sbc. Not trying to hijack thos thread just wondered if the exhaust had similar issues on the chevy.

Let’s say you could come up with some sort of fixture for the flow bench that had the exhaust flowing whatever magic number you’re looking for.

How would that impact what the exhaust port is going to do when it’s hooked up to the entire exhaust system in the vehicle?
Somewhat handy with a die grinder.

I am not sure what is the best way to evaluate ex, most cam programs use flow # for cam specs but are they based on numbers with or without a pipe?

EMC tv does several ex tests with 600+ hp engines and the correct 3" ex system and muffler has little to no effect on power vs a header and 18" collector, I have never tried to flow a head with a header on it but it would be interesting to see how it effects flow numbers.

If you’re using a free flowing exhaust system, probably not much I’m guessing. The more restrictive the exhaust becomes...I don’t know. I’ve asked similar questions on here before and gotten little to no response.

You guys took my question a bit too literally.

Propping up the ex numbers with the use of some special flow tubes that aren’t representative of what will be used on the motor....... really only serves to make you feel better about the test results.

The point being....... the use of special apparatus that might fluff up the flow numbers on the flow bench doesn’t actually make the head flow any more when it’s installed in the vehicle.

It’s like if one head is flowed on two different benches, and the results from one bench are 20cfm high than the other.
It’s not like the higher numbers from the one bench will translate to more power from the motor.
Somewhat handy with a die grinder.
