Platinum 215s feedback

Post by cv67 »

How is Darts overall quality these days?
Specifically 215 platinum sbc heads

noticed there are heads offered with a cc like 49cc? Can these be ordered to spec?

Had someone asking about them after talking about the knockoffs, had no feedback but wondered myself.

They are a decent performing head.
The 49 cc heads are a 21 1/2 degree head. You will need the right pistons to make use of them.mahle has them just
for that head.

RHS sold a similar 49cc head but the chamber and spark plug location is a bit different compared to the Dart heads as in
closer to the piston center.
Most guys make the mistake of not getting the right pistons to make use of the heads potential and deal with valve relief issues.

The set I had, took quite a bit of work blending the chamber roof
to the top of the valve seats a lot of casting flash, they were fresh
out of the box, I wouldn't buy them again unless it was some restricted
class form of racing.

Just curious if you've ever bought a NIB head that didn't need some kind of work.

Yes and I didn't have any time or very minimal time involved in cleanup on them,
There was casting flash sticking up .100" and more in spots, with valves closed
you couldn't drag a straight edge across the valve and chamber roof without catching
the flash.
Just giving a heads up he asked what people thought.

Any head needs some work these days.
the big deal is the valve angle difference. A lot of guys never really get that and use std. VA pistons.
Its the max effort builds or large cam lift builds that run into PTV issues. DIY guys learn this lesson the hard way. [-X

The reality is when you get complete assembled heads they are no better then production line parts.
They are new and assembled with all new parts and castings but the finished quality is no5t as good.

True seemingly. Makes you wonder if it is worth it to buy an assembled head. I did that years ago assuming that when assembled in the factory everything was kept to close tolerances...unfortunately I was wrong.
