Every Super Stock head that I do is oval and raised. That is why I wanted to try it on this.

However these flow way too much air to be this small and oval, IMO.
do you think the smaller faster super stock head would of made more power at the rpm level you are using
any chance of better intake ramming after the piston starts rising in the bore
does the 2.08'' valve help slow the air over the turn
got so many questions, those NHRA stockers amaze me
I think a Super stock head will make more power on an engine up to this CID. The filling on those engines are crazy stupid. BUT they also have some amazing low friction short block going on. The 2.08 valve in this head was used because I had a nice set of Ferrea LS valves. But my first thought was to 2.150 it. Do it much like a 6500 rpm EMC engine.

A Super Stock flows 260cfm and around 1.9in² at the pinch. The make 540-550ft lbs on a 355.

Pretty impressive how the stocker head only flows 260 cfm and the engine produces 1.5 plus ft/lbs.
I suspect raising the intake port helps with port velocity averages and more stable air flow.
I don't know anything about EMC but looks interesting, I am not sure with the bigger valve you are saying, maybe a better coefficient of flow with bigger valve, must be hard to make good power down to low rpm.

A Super Stock head is a prime example of how important localized air speeds are. If you get the shape to handle the speed, it works.

If you don't, it's equally as bad.

The goal is still 500/500.. I will find out soon. Scott Clark is going to help me with the HP.

I don't know if it was ever mentioned but did you start with a Vortec (later-model roller) block? I've got an 880 sitting in the garage and 500/500 scares me.

No, I started with a 500 run 400 block, which is even worse! :)

Oh, that's right. I forgot about the big bore. I guess your block being worse at least helps with my anxiety. I've never had to mop up a dyno cell before, lol

Yes, my pops is finishing getting it in and then I will wire up the HP. Have a friend from PA coming in to dyno tune a car close to me so I'm going to have him tune this. Wichita Dyno has a Mainline dyno. I knew I was going to chassis dyno, that is why I didn't tune hard on it on the engine dyno.

Well it was a long process. The HP is all tuned for now. The hood fits. It's runs hard.

Elbow worked, "they" were wrong! :)
