leveling washer for raised cam SBC block with additional dizzy angle

Post by levisnteeshirt »

has anyone tried this to see if it will offset the angle difference of the distributor instead of machining more angle into the pad for it on the intake ?

You need to keep the distributor shaft and oil pump drive on the same axis or it will require a CV joint of some sort, like the old Prestolite roller bearing distributors in NASCAR Hemi engines.

I had one that was moved around so much I had to move over and bore the hole in a slightly different manifold position.
This sounds a little redneck but it was efficient and worked.
I dummied up the dizzy and figured out at what point on the pad I could place the pad and give me some plus/minus to work with.
I then machined a ring and clamped it to the dizzy pad.
Set it in the block and tacked the ring to the manifold with the TIG.
Remove manifold,
Finish weld the ring to the manifold.
Machine the pad to remove any weld distortion.

I have one that the pad looks to have been cut deeper than even what a standard block would need , so the gap will be more than .391 . Never know what ya might find in McMaster Carr so I looked and saw this. I ordered 2 different sizes. The vertical axis looks to be not inline with the distributor hole that the distributor body is inline with so some additional work looks to be required despite if this leveling washer deal works
