Difference between Ford Racing M-9424-D302 & Vic Jr
While I'm still awaiting more info on high rpm manifolds, I'm starting to collect parts for a 331, street build using a set of C5OE heads that I have.
I don't know the history of the Ford Racing M-9424-D302 manifold but have read that it's the same as the 2921 VJ. That doesn't seem likely, as the manifold height is a little different (5.35 vs 5.5).
What I would like to know is, the runner size and exit port size of the M 9424 manifold. The VJ, is suppose to be 1.9 x 1.08, I would be happy with something smaller, for those heads.
This engine would be limited to 6K rpm or 575 cfm and use a 600 or 660 cfm carb.

Please clarify that last paragraph?

The engine will be cammed to operate at a max of 6200 rpm. At 6000 rpm, it will pull 575 cfm of air for 331 CI, if it reaches 100% efficiency and I plan to use a 600 or 660 cfm carb.

Big Block, this isn't about the heads, it's about the M-9424-D302 manifold.
This isn't a race engine, it's going in a '48 Ford PU, with a AOD trans.
With a relative, small amount of work, the heads flow 200 cfm and all I need for this. I'm hoping that the M-9424-D302 will have a little smaller runners & exit ports to work in this application, if not, there is the M-9424-F302, 180 deg version that is suppose to fit stock heads. It would probably make more since for my application but, I'd like to know more about the D302.

Same manifold with different name or number cast in the surface.frnkeore wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 1:43 pm While I'm still awaiting more info on high rpm manifolds, I'm starting to collect parts for a 331, street build using a set of C5OE heads that I have.

Find yourself an older Weiand 7515 X-celerator manifold or real old Edelbrock Torquer 289.

Even on a duel plane Intake a 650 cfm Carb is plenty good to net you 400 hp, which your unlikely to attain on a 331 cid motor in true NA everyday street usage form.
Why you would concider running a 660 Carb made for tunnel ram usage is leaving me scratching my head unless it was already reworked for single Carb use.

Sorry about that, I hit the wrong number, it is a 650 cfm carb, not a 660.
I have a large collection of 1, 2 & 4 bbl carbs (about 100, or more). Smallest Holley 4v is a 450 off a 327 Rambler and largest is a 850 dp. I have matching pares of 550 & 600's but, no 660. Another carb that I have and will try with this build, is a 600 cfm 4100 Ford carb. They were common on the '60's 390's and I have one 480 or 450 cfm that came on 289's.
If any BB Chev guys need a correct Holley body for a HP 396, that ones for sale. I also have a odd ball 383 Mopar that has 600 pri & 850 sec, almost like a spred bore. It's not for sale, I want to try it on something.

Holley produced a similar carb for the aftermarket, (a List 7010), but, screwed it up by using a reverse idle system.

Here is a picture of that 4218 carb.

Holley also released in the aftermarket, 2 double pumper carbs with that type bore differential, (a 650 list 6708 and a 750 list 6709), but, they had reverse idle systems, also.
