How fast can a 400 sbc go?

Post by econo racer »

Say in a 3300lb bracket car turbo 350 4k stall 456 gears 10/28 slick? Must run a solid flat tappet any intake or carb. Any racing fuel or E85. about 12/1 comp. :D

If you drop it out of a F117 Phantom at 65,000 feet on a Bomb run, then dam fast!

Assuming you can get it to hook and it doesn't blow up, (stock block), low 11s easily, 10s with proper tuning. Much easier than trying to do it with a 350. Larger small blocks like big heads and a cam with lot's of lift, difficult with a flat tappet
So much to do, so little time...

For example, I have seen people make post like this to pat themselves on the back/ get attention buy means of having someone reply... let's say 10.30 in the 1/4 mile and then the op comes back with well my motor already runs 9.80s in hopes that he can make a whole string of post to brag and blovite about in.

How fast will 850hp push a 3,300# car ?
Take an old SB2 NASCAR Cup engine, and add stroke, to get to 400"
You wouldn't even need to change the flat tappet cam.

The short block is done. Have a good intake. Super Victor. Have 850 carb. Need the solid cam, lifters and heads. Have about $1500 budget for the heads.

Depends how good an engine builder and tuner he is. 9.20 Min to high 8"s

That should almost cover the hardware.

agree'd. save a little longer if need be for better heads. can always use the heads on the next engine.

I always answer a question like this, how many horse power per cubic inch can you afford? I tell them 1 HP per cubic inch is bolt on items, 2 HP per cubic inch is lots of flow bench and dyno time, plus some really expensive parts, and 2.5 HP per cubic inch is about the limit and requires cubic money, and I am not that smart. Also the more HP per cubic inch, the more maintenance and breakage.
