There is a sweet sounding exhaust , then there is is a exhaust that just pisses every one off, including you eventually..
If the exhaust terminates under the truck VS at the rear bumper it is going to get old quick... The H pipe is a good idea.. I build my own custom mufflers.

Look what Ford did with the late Mustangs..
I took a California Special 6 Speed rag top for a ride .
As soon as you fire it up... Its like " Ya Baby"!!! (Austin Powers) ♪♪♪🇬🇧
Can you show the inside of your custom muffler? If it's not top secret.

You need LEVEL #5 clearance ha ha
Give me a bit and I will dig up a drawing..

What about the old SONIC TURBO mufflers?

Do they still make those?

The Sonic Turbo is similar to my custom muffler.
Its not exactly the same but uses similar ideas.
I had not seen the guts of a sonic turbo when I did mine.
I think these are good.. My custom mufflers worked very well..

My 88 Firebird had a pair of my custom built mufflers 2.5" in out

Had a aggressive idle but nicer and quieter than flowmasters. Not over the top when @Wot either..
Same drag perf as open headers. Actually just a hair quicker.

Best with headphones

on both sizes of STs the drone was at 1900-to 2100ish.None up to it and none after it.My car has a TKO and that is where I drive it on the highway and in 4th at 2000 on city streets! The 14in was 86 decibels at 2000 and the 18s were 84.I now have a set of just non performance 18s and they are 82.Im might try the HPs and if they suck I might change my 3.31s to like 3.55s to keep me out of that range.Tom

If you watch Roadkill then you know of the Muscle Truck, it used larger straight thru mufflers like mention in an earlier post but I think they went a bit larger and it's deff loud!

A crossover will really pull some snap out of loud mufflers.

I run 3" Ultra Flows with no cross over and dumps at the axle on my 79 Camaro with a pretty hot Tunnel Rammed 427 SBC. Its pretty loud. I did run 3" bullets before with a 406 I had in it and that was way beyond what I would consider acceptable as far as noise goes, didn't care much for the tone either. So one morning when I woke up at 4 am wondering what the f*%$k am I going to do now, I figures why not try the bullets in front of the Ultra Flows, so I welded them up and it actually tones it down a bit, as a nice aggressive idle still but less of a cackle to it. On the highway it's pretty quiet till you put your foot in it. I also like the fact that there is no comprise in back pressure with this set up. This is purely a street car.

The Sonic Turbos were basically now what we call the Dynomax Super Turbos, with both using a noise or energy cancelling bulge, at the end of the intake tube of the mufflers. Both of these mufflers will get a little louder with time/running them over months. Don't forget the Walker Quiet-Flow mufflers, which can have an even longer case than their Dynomax Super Turbos.

For both noise control and increased flow, if someone has room, then more that 2 mufflers can be used in parallel.

I recently installed the inserts in the exhaust tips. I didn't expect a lot but they did reduce sound end drone. Only drawback is that at idle it produces this kinda plopping sound, like it's loose, which it is not.

There was a slight drop in power across the board as I had to retune my efi. But only a couple % so not to bad.
