GT45 Turbo For Dummies

Re: GT45 Turbo For Dummies
Gt35 is way to big and wouldnt spool well imo. I dont know much on corvair engines tho, how much rpm they can turn. That sized turbo on late model 4 cyl cars make many hundreds of hp. But can be a touch laggy. A good 61-62 mm compressor wheel can make 800 hp on a small engine. That turbine size 62/67 mm or so is a size that would be better on a higher rpm higher base hp 4-6 cylinder imo. It be ok if you had a built engine that could handle 400-700 hp or so.

Thanks Orr89rocz
'how much rpm they can turn'
I would say 5500-6000 RPM.
Corvair engine would be what we can run and test turbos on right now.
What about the T3/T4 Hybrid Ebay $100 turbo on the stock 80hp Corvair engine?
Found out from watching a few 'Unboxing Ebay Turbos' Youtubes to ask sellers if it is a Max Speeding Rods turbo.
Have found a couple of the T3/T4 turbos and they have offered a little off and say two year warranty.

Re: GT45 Turbo For Dummies
Cool.
Okay.Then that is the plan.
Be neat to put all the gauges on it and see what is going on.
Litlle Corvair engine on a test stand and T3/T4 turbo.
Good thing about test stands and Corvairs is they are air cooled. No muss no fuss!

Re: GT45 Turbo For Dummies
Thanks Randy
'Keep in mind many/most Turbos are not suitable for draw through use.'
Uh oh!
First we have heard that.
Makes sense though in that they are selling them for current engines mostly and that is not an issue.
UPDATE
Went ahead and bought a GT35 Ebay Made in China turbo.3582 model.
Will look into the situation.
Late model turbos seals.Got it.Thanks.

Re: GT45 Turbo For Dummies
A welded steel square tubing test stand.
Let me throw this in.
Plan is to pickup a GT45 and a T70 next.
That sort of exhausts the reasonably priced Ebay made in china turbos for us.
What drove us to that was the shortage of Rajay and AiResearch turbos on Ebay.
That were priced within the stratosphere that is.
The T76 turbo on Ebay is beyond our budget.Nice turbo though!
