New Peanut Port Head Test

Post by 1980RS »

Since the racing season is winding down up here I thought I would test my 8 to 1 compression peanut port BBC again with some 360 castings I ported a few years ago. The 1st pass was ehh, not so good as the engine was shooting ducks and I though it was a valve spring or timing issue. Turned out to be the 750 Demon was too lean, so on went the 850 Mighty Demon. The car picked up 3 tenths and 3 mph so I was pretty happy. As the day went on I had limited time to test much else. I put the 2" tapered spacer on and the car really liked that. I ended up at 11.20's@116 with the new heads and Holley Strip Dominator. I think for the next test I will try the Air Gap and my Crower cam that has a tighter LCA pretty sure it could use some more low end power. Who knows might be a 10.99 there.

Awesome, what kinda car is it? How big is the BBC?

We are putting together I'd guess, the Ford variant of the Peanut ports, a 460 with the EFI heads. I like them a lot.

Your not going to find much low end gain by means of a Cam change with only 8 to 1 comp!

I would be doing all I could to get the comp into the 9.5 area!

I don't know but I am willing to bet that if the cam were on a 106° LCA it would be stronger on the low end. Maybe someone will chime in on that.
I know the little Hyd. cam in my Vortec 406 was on a 106 LCA and it got me in the 10's.

The 10.68 was the first time out in a 27.60 baro, after it was dialed it ran 10.34 in a 28.80 baro......keep working

Just swapped out the Strip Dominator for the RPM Performer to see if the dual plane will be quicker and faster. While I have my doubts Marks has proven that they do work on his peanut port stuff so I am going to give it a try.

Heres the post dyno test of my peanut port after running the engine in my car for a season. Maybe this will give you some data to work off of.
Notice the average power along with the power carry.

Thanks Mark, I am hoping the RPM will perform better than the single plane, thanks for the info. Looks like the numbers you have are pretty good.
