SBC bearing question

Post by Belgian1979 »

The following: when building my previous engine I used 2 different sets to get the clearances just right. I mean one slightly bigger and one standard I believe it was. The bigger bearings were some special type of Clevite bearing but I forgot what type they were. Can someone let me know and in what sizes they are?

Cannot answer your question, but with the myriad of brgs available for the SBC, I would imagine some part #s would be reqd to answer your question.

If they were the performance bearings the "larger" ones would have an "X" in the part number for extra clearance. For instance the rods would be CB663HXN

Yes, like that.
On the original factory bearings I found them in sizes .0006 and .0012

Is there a list with those partnumbers and the respective sizes? Or is there some logic in the partnumbers?

They are all in the Clevite bearing catalog. Also tons of good technical information. You can download it from the Mahle/Clevite web site. The first two are the ones you need:
