Reverse Acceleration on Engine Dyno

Post by agertz1 »

Many years ago, engines were brought down slowly, after a run. What changed and why ?
Thanks, Art.

It just sounds so cruel; the poor engine straining its guts out as it's mercilessly dragged to its knees... #-o

Would be a good simulation of a hill.

Or a pulling truck. About the only competition application, where deceleration pulls make sense.

The guy who I purchased some of the components to build my dyno, started the pull at max rpm and then loaded down to where he wanted to end it. Seemed weird to me, and after some reading, the inertia of the rotating assembly would give a slightly better HP and torque number. Lot of the old guys did it this way it seems.

Turbocharged diesel pulling tractor engines need to be tested by pulling down from the top in order to get the turbo spooled.
