video on velocity and sound

Post by SpeierRacingHeads »

IMO this shows that SHAPE is KING over all else. 172cc port, flows all the way until the retainer touches the guide.

Super fast airspeed and shape is on display.

It seems like you have quite a bit of bowl fill.

There's usually slow air on the bench in that area, do you see gains on the dyno filling that?

I have never not done them that way, so no back to back. The rule is 172cc final volume. So have to make legal.

Here is what the ports look like finished. Raise the floor and roof.

It looks kinda sharp from the pictures. Could you do a solder wire bend around it?

FAR from sharp or abrupt.

What does it do with a full intake tract?

As far as velocity? Localized like in the video slows 50-70 fps. Maybe more in some areas.

50-70 fps with the manifold attached. Problem is checking localized velocities with a carb/manifold on it.

Port flows 283cfm with the valve upside down. Min CSA is 1.72in².

And it's all about the sound.

These engines make crazy power for the CSA and flow the head gives them. Heads are very efficient for the port volume.

I have always wondered why that filled area even exists. What purpose does it serve? And is it worth having it given the velocity improvements you get from filling it?

What type of class/engine?

NHRA Super Stock. Usually 350-358's.

Chad you always have good stuff to show people, thanks for sharing. I learn something new every time I watch your videos. Now I just need to apply it to my stuff and beat up on the locals a bit.

Is that Splash Zone in those ports?

Whatever it is, it looks to be far more "user friendly" than what I experienced when attempting to use Belzona 1111 to downsize some intake manifold runners. #-o
